1. With a computer keyboard, a key is one of the keyboard's buttons. Letters, numbers, functions, and symbols are all represented on keys. For example, the picture shows the Windows key a keyboard key found on most keyboards today.
To open the Start menu—which contains all your apps, settings, and files—do either of the following:
- On the left end of the taskbar, select the Start icon.
- Press the Windows logo key on your keyboard.
Go to system settings --> keyboard --> Shortcuts and locate the menu key in the list. Click on it and hit backspace to disable it.
The Microsoft Windows Start menu is the primary location in Windows to locate your installed programs and find any files or folders. By default, the Start menu is accessed by clicking Start in the bottom-left corner of the Windows desktop screen.
To remap your “Control” key to your “Windows” key, the easiest thing to do is click the “Type Key” button. First, press the left “Control” button in the left column, then press the “Windows” key in the right column. Now you see that we've remapped the left “Control” button to act as the “Windows” key.
In Microsoft Windows, it activates the menu bar of an open application. Shift+F10 is the same as the right-clicking on the highlighted icon, Internet link or file.
Once the num lock function has been enabled, the Return key will function as an Enter key. If you want to use the Return key temporarily as an Enter key, you can simply hold down the fn key and press the Return key directly. Note: In some cases you may need to turn off the fn key.
Almost all computer keyboards have a key marked Return or Enter; the two names are synonymous. The Return key moves the cursor (or insertion point) to the beginning of the next line. But more important, it returns control to whatever program is currently running.
There are two Enter keys on a computer keyboard, one to the right of the main keyboard and the other on the bottom right corner of the numeric keypad. Keyboards and laptops without a numeric keypad only have one Enter key on the keyboard.
Just look at such a keyboard: the Return key says “Return”, and the Enter key says “Enter”. If your keyboard doesn't have a dedicated Enter key, you can type the Enter key by pressing Fn-Return. That's why some Return keys have “Enter” printed in small type above the word “Return”.
You can configure whether tapping enter sends a message or not. Open WhatsApp. Go to More options > Settings > Chats . Turn Enter is send on or off.
The Return key has the same function as the Enter key on a Windows keyboard. Both keys are used to submit data and create new lines when typing text. Important: The name "return" comes from a "carriage return," an old typewriter term. The carriage was a mechanism typewriters used to advance the paper to the next line.
The delete key is a key on most computer keyboards which typically is used to delete either (in text mode) the character ahead of or beneath the cursor, or (in GUI mode) the currently-selected object. The key is sometimes referred to as the "forward delete" key.
Arrow keys or cursor movement keys are buttons on a computer keyboard that are either programmed or designated to move the cursor in a specified direction.
The shift key ⇧ Shift is a modifier key on a keyboard, used to type capital letters and other alternate "upper" characters. There are typically two shift keys, on the left and right sides of the row below the home row.
The function keys or F keys are lined along the top of the keyboard and labeled F1 through F12. These keys act as shortcuts, performing certain functions, like saving files, printing data, or refreshing a page. For example, the F1 key is often used as the default help key in many programs.
Alt+F4 is a shortcut key most often used to close the current active window. For example, if you pressed the shortcut key now while reading this page on your computer browser, it would close the browser window and all open tabs. Alt+F4 in Microsoft Windows.
Other keys work in conjunction with the control key or the alt key or the function key. These keyboard shortcuts can do almost anything. It can tell your computer to print the document that you have open.
Later models replaced this with a numeric keypad, and moved the function keys to 24 keys at the top of the keyboard.
A special key or media key, or multimedia key is a keyboard key that performs a special function not included with the traditional 104-key keyboard. These four buttons, or keys, are considered special keys. Tip. Special keys are found on keyboards often referred to as multimedia keyboards.

Depending on your keyboard, you may actually have a dedicated “Fn Lock” key. If you don't, you may have to press the Fn key and then press an “Fn Lock” key to activate it. For example, on the keyboard below, the Fn Lock key appears as a secondary action on the Esc key. To enable it, we'd hold Fn and press the Esc key.
How to unlock and lock function key on laptop
- Turn on the computer.
- Press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup window.
- Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration option.
- Enter the Action Keys Mode option, and then press the enter key to display the Enable / Disable menu.
- Select Disabled, press f10 key to save the selection and reboot.
Typing (alphanumeric) keys.These keys include the same letter, number, punctuation, and symbol keys found on a traditional typewriter.
