yes it is good for gaming. the i5 can outperform it in certain games but not by much. this usually only happens at higher resolutions.
Run Intel XTU and setup stress test for at least 5 hours. Use RealTemp to monitor your Core temperature. Keep Core temperature under 85C. Every chip is different, overclocking results may vary, but if your chip is capable of 4500MHz under 1.300v Vcore then you are lucky.
The only reliable way to overclock your system is to change the settings in the computer's BIOS. The BIOS (sometimes referred to as UEFI) contains the PC's key settings. To access the BIOS, you must turn off your computer and turn it back on. As the computer restarts, press the DELETE, F2 or F10 key repeatedly.
In many respects, the Core i7-10700K is similar, if not better, than the previous-gen Core i9-9900K. Both chips come with eight cores and 16 threads, but the 10700K has higher 3.8 / 5.1 GHz base/boost clocks, while the Core i9-9900K tops out at 3.6 / 5.0 GHz. Both chips have the same 4.7 GHz all-core boost.
Intel Core i7-10700K Desktop Processor 8 Cores up to 5.1 GHz Unlocked LGA1200 (Intel 400 Series Chipset) 125W (BX8070110700K) In stock on November 25, 2020.
In contrast, the Core i9-10900K essentially comes overclocked out of the box, so performance gains are slim. Conversely, the 10700K is a far better value for gamers than the 10900K, particularly if they're not afraid to overclock and therefore gain access to essentially the same level of gaming performance.
Modern popular 8 core processors on the marketSo if you're looking to play games at the minimum required settings, a 4 core CPU will be perfect for you. But if you want to play games at the maximum settings you might want to consider the more optimal amount of cores and more powerful CPUs
Intel CPUs are typically the favorite choice for performance and overclocking enthusiasts. Intel's top CPUs cost more than their AMD counterparts, especially once you add in a decent cooler, but they're often a bit faster in games. AMD meanwhile is able to trounce Intel when it comes to multithreaded applications.
The 10th gen Ice Lake laptop processors are definitely worth it as they use the new Sunny Cove cores which have 18% better IPC over Skylake and use Gen11 graphics. The 10th gen Comet Lake and Cascade Lake are useless since they're basically refreshed parts from last gen with zero architectural improvements.
The Core i7-10700K features 8 cores, and HyperThreading enables 16 threads. It also features 16 MB of shared L3 cache. In essence, this chip has the same muscle as the company's current mainstream desktop flagship, the i9-9900K, but demoted to the Core i7 brand extension.
Gigabyte Announced Motherboards Will Support 11th Gen ChipsAccording to details in a Gigabyte Aorus Livestream, Gigabyte announced that its Z490 motherboards will support Intel's 11th generation Rocket Lake CPUs.
From the System Utilities screen, select System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > Performance Options > Intel (R) Turbo Boost Technology and press Enter. Select a setting and press Enter. Enabled—Enables the logical processor cores on processors supporting hyperthreading technology.
FCLGA2011 (at least on Intel's ARK) means any variant of LGA2011, be it LGA2011-0(X79) or LGA2011-3(X99). Xeon E5 16XX/26XX/46XX(V1/V2) uses LGA2011-0 just like 38XX and 39XX i7s. Xeon E5 X4XX uses LGA1356(No more of this kind from Haswell onwards).

The i7-2600 is still a very good CPU. There is no need to upgrade it. Your i7 paired with a GTX 1060 will be able to handle 60 FPS gaming at 1080p. If you decide to get an 144Hz monitor and want more FPS you're looking at upgrading the CPU to do that.
The 1st gen i7 is going to be comparable to a 2nd gen i5, and the 2nd gen i7 is going to be a pretty good upgrade to both. For gaming I know that the 2nd gen i7 works well from experience. The i5 may bottleneck some games like GTA V or other CPU intensive games.
The Core i7-2600K was a 32nm quad-core processor with HyperThreading, offering a 3.4 GHz base frequency and a 3.8 GHz turbo frequency, with a listed 95W TDP.
full answer: A CPU frequency alone isn't enough to determine whether you will have enough performance for gaming. Many different CPUs with wildly difference performance run at 3.4 GHz, from old single-core Pentium 4 CPUs from the early 2000s to current-generation CPUs in the Intel Core and AMD Ryzen series.
