Blue Marsh National Recreation Area is an artificial lake located northwest of the city of Reading, Pennsylvania, USA and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District.
Underneath the watery expanse of Blue Marsh Lake was once fertile and flowering land, alive with farm life. The project, started in 1974 by the Army Corps of Engineers, would create a dam to protect surrounding areas from flooding, and provide a new water supply and recreation area for Berks County residents.
The lake supports a large and varied fish population including panfish, largemouth bass, common carp, bullhead catfish, channel catfish, alewife, white perch, muskellunge, and others.
