Male adult prisoners
Category A, B and C prisons are called closed prisons, whereas category D prisons are called open prisons. Category A prisoners are further divided into Standard Risk, High Risk, and Exceptional Risk, based on their likelihood of escaping.Generally speaking,

prisons are reserved for inmates who have been determined a threat to the public, the police or national security.

Although no national standards of care exist for pregnant women in jails and prisons, state regulations vary. In April 2019, Maryland became the first state to ban prisons from placing pregnant women in solitary confinement, previously something routinely done in the state.
The average funeral can cost nearly $8,000, according to the National Funeral Directors Association. A spokesperson for the prison bureau said they pay for “preparation of the deceased inmate's body, the casket, and transporting of the body to the family's funeral home” in some circumstances.
An inmate may receive more than one furlough but the furloughs must be at least ninety (90) days apart. Inmates must also have minimum security and community custody to be eligible for a furlough.
Te average time served by state prisoners released in 2016, from their date of initial admission to their date of initial release, was 2.6 years. Te median amount of time served (the middle value in the range of time served, with 50% of offenders serving more and 50% serving less) was 1.3 years (fgure 1).
Of course, Christmas in prison isn't like Christmas out there in the real world, but at the end of the day it's still Christmas and the effort is made at some institutions to make inmates feel the holiday cheer. But Christmas in prison can be special if the staff and inmates cooperate to make it so.
During home visits, inmates have to remain at home near a telephone land-line, so the work release center authorities can check up on them. Inmates can get a home pass once a week (presumably on weekends, since they have jobs). On the home pass, inmates are forbidden to consume alcohol or drugs.
Day-to-day temporary release. This is normally to go to a job outside the prison during the day and return to the prison at night. This is usually considered when a prisoner is coming close to the end of their sentence. This is normally granted if a prisoner has been progressing well on day-to-day temporary release.
B

Category A
They house male prisoners who, if they were to escape, pose the most threat to the public, the police or national security.Prisoners may be transferred from one prison to another for a number of reasons. So that they can serve the final weeks of their sentence in a prison nearer their home. The prisoner's sentence plan requires them to complete a course which is not available at the prison they are in. They are behaving in a disruptive way.
Category B
These prisons are either local or training prisons. Local prisons house prisoners that are taken directly from court in the local area (sentenced or on remand), and training prisons hold long-term and high-security prisoners.There are a total of ten Category A prisons in the UK, eight are located in England and Wales, one in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland. HM Prison Belmarsh is an example of a Category A prison. They are the equivalent of a supermax/maximum security prison in the United States for example.
Prisoners' daily life takes place according to a daily schedule. This will prescribe the wake-up, roll-calls, morning exercises, times for meals, times for escorting the prisoners to work and school and times for studying and working, as well as the times prescribed for sports events, telephone calls and walks.
Prisons are split in various wings which can be separate buildings connected by secure walkways, and each wing may be further split into separate spurs and landings. For some reason the ground floor is termed the “one's”, the first floor the “two's” and the second floor the “three's”.
