New HBO owner WarnerMedia (and new WarnerMedia owner AT&T) decided the best way to get more people to pay for HBO — and compete with Netflix — was to add hundreds of classic movies and TV shows, more kids programming, and original series not included with HBO to the base HBO offering — and call it HBO Max.

Update 6/17/21: YouTube TV is again hosting a “preview event†where subscribers can watch HBO Max and Cinemax for free this weekend. To access, search for an HBO show or navigate to the channel from the Live tab. HBO Max usually costs $14.99 per month, while Cinemax is $9.99.

You can add services through the YouTube TV app on your TV, phone or computer. On the YouTube TV app on your TV you select the store icon next to your profile picture in the top right, you then select the network you'd like to add (in this case HBO Max), select “add network†and confirm the purchase on the next screen.
If you'd like to access HBO Max as part of YouTube TV, then you'll need to buy Entertainment Plus, or buy the individual HBO Max add-on in the YouTube TV app. After that, you'll be able to login to the HBO Max app using your YouTube TV account credentials.
You can subscribe to just HBO for $14.99/month — but you could get access to even more movies, series, and new Max Originals plus all of HBO, if you subscribe to HBO Max. Plans start at $9.99/month.
To subscribe through YouTube TV, go to tv.youtube.com. Once you add HBO Max, you can stream all of HBO Max using the HBO Max app and stream all of HBO using the YouTube TV app.
YouTube TV has added a new $30 Entertainment Bundle that includes HBO Max. YouTube TV has added a new bundle, with streaming services HBO Max, Showtime and Starz now available for an extra $30 a month. Cable replacement YouTube TV already costs $65 a month for more than 85 channels of live TV.
And in February 2021, YouTube TV added the "Entertainment Plus" bundle for $29.99 a month. It gives you HBO Max, Showtime and STARZ, which normally would cost you $35 a month if you got each separately.
