In computing, a Control key is a modifier key which, when pressed in conjunction with another key, performs a special operation (for example, Ctrl + C ); similar to the Shift key, the Control key rarely performs any function when pressed by itself.
1. Alternatively known as a Return key, with a keyboard, the Enter key sends the cursor to the next line or executes a command or operation. Most full-sized PC keyboards have two Enter keys; one above the right Shift key and another on the bottom right of the numeric keypad.
The delete key is a key on most computer keyboards which typically is used to delete either (in text mode) the character ahead of or beneath the cursor, or (in GUI mode) the currently-selected object.
Click Advanced Key settings, then select Press the SHIFT key to turn off Caps lock. Click Apply and OK to save the changes. If it was selected to Press the SHIFT key to turn off Caps lock, you can switch it to Press the CAPS Lock key to turn off Caps lock.
Doug Kerr invented the “CAP” key. CAP performed the same function as Shift Lock, except it only affected the letter keys. “CAP” became Caps Lock, which made its way onto the computer keyboard, where it has remained part of the standard layout ever since.
Enable Caps Lock notification or warning
To enable this feature, open Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use. Check the Turn on Toggle Keys checkbox. Click Apply > OK. Now you will hear a tone when you press Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock.Tap the “Alt” and “Shift” keys simultaneously if you are pressing one keyboard key and getting a different symbol or letter. This will reset the keyboard defaults on some laptops. Press the “Ctrl” key and tap the "Shift" key simultaneously if the procedure in Step 1 did not work.
To show alerts visually in Windows 10 when using Caps Lock or Num Lock:
- Select the Windows icon on the Taskbar.
- Select Settings (Gear icon).
- Select Ease of Access.
- Select Keyboard from the left pane.
- Navigate to Use Toggle Keys.
- Set the Play a sound whenever you press Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock option to On.

Turn Caps lock on or off on your Samsung Chromebook
- To turn Caps lock on, press the alt + search keys.
- A notification will appear above the Taskbar.
- To turn Caps lock off, press the alt + search keys again.
At times, the shift or caps lock key may become stuck internally on the keyboard, or the simple control processor in the keyboard may start having problems, resulting in strange behavior including all-caps typing. If available, connect a different keyboard and see if problems continue.
When you hit cancel though it changes the configuration of the keyboard. When you hit a letter key you will get capitals even though you did not engage the capital lock key. When you hit a number key you will get the symbol above that key as if you had hit the shift key with it. Press both SHIFT KEYS at the same time.
What if your password is in lowercase and your computer is stuck on caps lock? If you're unable to turn off caps lock, you can hold Shift down for every key you type, or you can activate the on-screen keyboard. Let go of the shift key. If that doesn't work, try opening up your keyboard settings and checking there.
