Are Dogwood Deer Proof? The short answer is no. Almost no landscape plant is deer-proof other than tough cactuses and trees that have grown out of a deer's reach. Dogwood, because of its leafy growth pattern and relatively stocky trunks, is sometimes eaten by deer.

Spices and herbs that are bad for your dog

Tulips, Hyacinths and Irises are all considered toxic to both dogs and cats, and can cause vomiting, diarrhea and drooling if ingested. In spring the leaves emerge light purple and with the seasons' progression deepen to a dramatic deep, dark purple which holds up even in full sun. The fragrant blooms of the pagoda dogwood (Cornus alternifolia) are yellowish white, which give way to bluish, almost black berries.
Additional information: The showy part of the dogwood flower is not the flower at all but the bracts! The true flower is greenish yellow and insignificant. The bracts are white and about 2 inches long, and are effective for 10 days to two weeks in April or early May.
Choose woodland-origin, shallow-rooted spring-blooming perennials, like cranesbill (Geranium maculatum), sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum), dead nettle (Lamium maculatum) and astilbe (Astilbe x arendsii), rather than more aggressive woody shrubs to add more flowers when your dogwood is in bloom.
