The United Empire Loyalists were generally those who had been settled in the thirteen colonies at the outbreak of the American Revolution, who remained loyal to and took up the Royal Standard, and who settled in what is now Canada at the end of the war.
“The widespread notion that the first public art museum was the Louvre, which opened in 1793, conveniently associates the moment of origin with the French Revolution,” said Paul, a lecturer in the Department of History of Art and Architecture.
A national museum is a museum maintained by a state. In many countries it denotes a museum run by the central government, and often is restricted to a few museums, mostly in the capital, while other museums are run by regional or local government, or foundations.
When you visit Canada's capital, you can experience the entire country, all in one welcoming city! Home to seven of Canada's nine national museums, Ottawa is the mecca for culture vultures, historical enthusiasts and Canadiana buffs.

It was a teensy bit pricey but worth it for me.… ROM is excellent spot for all ages. I saw the Winnie the Pooh exhibit which was fun and interesting. My husband and I had so much fun with the different exhibits.
With six million objects in its collections and 40 galleries of art, archaeology and natural science, the ROM offers a whole world to explore. Four giant carved totem poles rise in the centre of the stairwells; the largest is 24.5 metres (over 80 ft.) tall.
