Lovan is usually taken as a single dose in the morning. If your doctor tells you to take it twice a day, take a dose in the morning and at noon. Take your medicine at about the same time each day. Taking it at the same time each day will have the best effect.
Lovan belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs are thought to work by their action on brain chemicals called amines which are involved in controlling mood.
Do not stop taking Lovan, or lower the dose, without checking with your doctor. Stopping Lovan suddenly may cause symptoms such as dizziness, anxiety, headache, feeling sick, or tingling or numbness of the hands or feet.
CONCLUSIONS: Acute therapy with fluoxetine is associated with modest weight loss. After remission of depressive symptoms, weight gain for patients taking fluoxetine for longer periods is not different from that for patients taking placebo and is most likely related to recovery from depression.

Lovan Liquid contains fluoxetine hydrochloride equivalent to 20 mg/5 mL (64.7 µmoles) of fluoxetine. Lovan Liquid also contains benzoic acid as preservative and sugars (as sucrose).
Many medications can contribute to constipation, including the following: Antidepressants, such as the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluoxetine (Prozac) or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil). But they also relax the muscles in the gut and may cause constipation.
Antidepressants that are less effective and less acceptable than sertraline or escitalopram have been prescribed with greater frequency.
