The Nintendo Switch (not the Switch Lite) comes with 2 Joycons, so if you buy an additional pair of Joycons, you will be set up for 4-player multiplayer. Note: This depends on the game(s) you are playing. 4 joycons will work for games like Mario Kart, Super Mario Party, or Just Dance.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe supports wireless play, allowing up to 8 players to connect multiple Nintendo Switch consoles together via a local wireless connection.
Each Switch comes with a pair of Joy-Con controllers that can be used as a single large controller for one person, or as individual, smaller controllers for two people. So, if you want to play with four people, you only need two pairs of Joy-Con controllers.
Nintendo Switch supports multiplayer gaming options of all kinds. You can play together online or in the same room using one system or multiple systems. Specific features vary by game, such as voice chat or split-screen play, but sharing fun with friends and family is a key focus for Nintendo Switch.
You'd have to purchase four separate Pro Controllers, which would get rather expensive. However, if you decided to go with Joy-Cons, you'd only have to buy one additional pack of Joy-Cons and then use them alongside the pair that came with the Nintendo Switch to have four controllers ready for multiplayer action.
Mario Kart 8 tips and tricks
- Master the drifting system.
- Maintain first place in a race.
- Use the slipstream system to get ahead.
- Use all of the game's ghost data.
- Pick up plenty of coins.
- Find out where the shortcuts are.
- Use the boost start trick to get off the grid quickly.
- Gain speed using stunt boosts.
You need an extra set of controllers. Some games require a controller per hand per person playing the game. You can use just the two. Most two player games do allow for single joycon play (one for each player), but long term it's not the most ideal.
On a second system, log into the account with the game in question. This will make the second console the account's primary system. You can then log out of that account on the second Switch, and create a new profile. You can now play the same game on both systems at the same time.

The game's logo. Mario Kart 9 is a new installment in the Mario Kart series which is the third Mario Kart game and will be exclusive for the Nintendo Switch which will be released in the holidays of 2021. This game is the direct sequel of Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is totally worth the $60 price tag for double-dippers. Let's get this out of the way first: if you didn't own a Wii U or you never played Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a must-buy on the Nintendo Switch.
Mario Kart 8 has better character/vehicle balance, for sure. Mario Kart Wii probably has the better item balance to offset that, though. Mario Kart 8 imo also has better tracks and better music. and even though both battle modes are crapo, Mario Kart 8 has it marginally better.
