IUC is a cost paid by one mobile telecom operator to another, when its customers make outgoing mobile calls to the other operator's customers. Jio's main prepaid recharge plans come with these IUC top-ups, where customers have the option of buying it.
First of all, there is no provision of doing IUC top-up separately. You can only recharge with Jio's data plan that have IUC top-up included. For example 399+10, 399+20 and so on.
Calls from Jio to Jio, to landlines and those made over apps such as WhatsApp will remain free. All Jio customers who want to make a voice call to either Vodafone Idea or Airtel will have to buy additional top-up vouchers of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100, for additional IUC minutes.
Jio's IUC top-up vouchers or IUC plans are priced between Rs 10 and Rs 100, according to company's wesbite- jio.com. Jio's main prepaid recharge plans come with these IUC top-ups, where customers have the option of buying it.
IUC is a charge paid to the telco on whose network a call terminates and has been a bone of contention among the private players and the sector regulator. Two years ago, the sector regulator, had brought it down from 14 paise per minute to 6 paise per minute and decided to scrap the charge from January 2020.
With effect from your next recharge, post 10th October, all calls to NON-JIO mobile numbers will be charged at 6 paise/minute. You will have the option to select a suitable IUC TOP-UP voucher starting at Rs 10, that can be used to make such non-Jio calls.
Top up is the form of prepaid recharge in which there is no any validity. It can be refilled once the existing top up account replenishes.
The IUC is basically the cost paid by one mobile telecom operator to another when its customers make outgoing mobile calls to the other operator's customers. Customers will have to pay IUC charges until the TRAI brings the fee down to zero, which is expected to take place on January 1, 2020.
Telecom operators will continue to pay 6 paise per minute for every outgoing call made to their competitors' network till December 31, 2020, following the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (Trai's) decision announced on Tuesday. These charges were proposed to become zero from January 1, 2021.
