A prepayment meter is a special type of energy meter that can be installed in domestic properties. With a prepayment, or 'pay as you go' tariff, you pay for your energy before you use it - usually by adding money to a 'key' or smart card, which is then inserted into the meter.

Converting to a prepaid meter is a painless process that is free to City Power clients. The procedure for conversion is: Customers will receive a notice from City Power alerting them of the conversion. The customer must call City Power at the number on the City Power notice to arrange for the conversion.
Prepaid meters are able to count the flow of electricity used in KWH. The meter balance decreases as the consumer uses electricity, and there is an LED light on the meter that flashes as electricity is consumed. The faster the light flashes, the more units are being used.

tokens via M-PESA and AirtelMoney.

- Enter KPLC prepaid business number 888880 or 88888.
- Enter your 11 digit meter number.
- Enter amount between 250 and 35,000.
- Enter your M-Pesa pin.

- Borrowing is only once. You are not allowed to borrow again unless you load credit on your Meter and the borrowed 5 unit credit is deducted.
