They both felt strongly for the Union, although Davis believed it was constitutionally possible for a state to secede. Lincoln was against slavery, but he believed it should be contained where it was; Davis (known to be a particularly kind master), believed it was essential to the southern economy.
However, nothing is further from the truth as the southern states had every legal right to secede and determine their own destiny. There is no provision in the U.S. Constitution which prohibits a state from seceding from the union.

The Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction was Lincoln's plan to reintegrate the Confederate states back into the Union, granting presidential pardons to all Southerners (except political leaders) who took an oath of future allegiance to the Union.

Lincoln made his position clear at his inauguration.
After the war, Confederate states were readmitted to the Congress during the Reconstruction era, after each ratified the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution outlawing slavery.
Lincoln: Wants to preserve the Union, and not start a war so the country does not split. Davis: Wants to preserve the agricultural economy of the South and have the South breakaway from the North.
