Fort Casey was constructed by the U.S. Army in the late 1800s; it was equipped for defense and used as a training facility up to the mid-1940s. By the 1920s, their effectiveness had waned and, though Fort Casey stayed open for training through World War II, it was decommissioned soon after the end of the war.
Fort Casey State Park is easy to find. Anglers living on the west side of Puget Sound can catch the ferry at Port Townsend to the Keystone ferry landing next door to Fort Casey State Park. Trout fishing, including steelhead is open year around in this area.
Fort Casey was named for Brigadier General Thomas Lincoln Casey, U.S. Army Chief of Engineers. Designed as part of the massive modernization program of U.S. seacoast fortifications initiated by the Endicott Board, construction on Fort Casey began in 1897.
Greenbank Farm is a tourist attraction and community farm in the area of Greenbank on Whidbey Island. Founded in 1904 the farm developed until 1940 when it was sold to a loganberry farmer. By 1970 the farm was the largest Loganberry farm in the United States.

Tour and explore a significant coastal defense fort established more than a century ago to guard the entrance to Puget Sound. Built in the late 1890s and manned during World War I, World War II and the Korean War, Fort Flagler now features a military museum and gift shop.
Ferry RoutesThe ferry between Clinton on Whidbey Island and Mukilteo on the mainland runs from 5:30 a.m. until after midnight. For most of the day, two boats sail the route, providing service every half-hour. The ferry runs between Coupeville on Whidbey Island and Pt. Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula.
The park office and lighthouse at Fort Casey State Park will provide you information on hiking, the Reserve, Admiralty Head Lighthouse, and informaiton on camping within Fort Casey and Fort Ebey state parks. Government. Whidbey Island, along with Camano Island, Ben Ure Island and six uninhabited islands, comprises Island County, Washington. The county seat is located in the town of Coupeville on Whidbey Island.
Fort Casey was decommissioned in the 1950s, and Seattle Pacific University became the property's owner — updating and renovating the buildings. Today, SPU continues to welcome school groups, churches, nonprofit organizations, and outdoor education classes to this remarkable historical site.
The military closed Fort Worden in 1953. Washington State Parks acquired portions of Fort Worden in 1957 but did not acquire all of its current property until 1989.
Camp Casey was originally the military residential area of Fort Casey, built as a strategic defense point in 1897. In the early 1900s as many as 10 officers and 428 enlisted men lived onsite. Today it is owned and operated by Seattle Pacific University, and used as a conference and event center for groups.
