“Cyclonic Storm 'Gulab' lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 26th September 2021, over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal near Lat. 18.4°N and Long.
The heavy to very heavy rainfall results from an interaction of western disturbances that bring rainfall and snow in North-West India, with a low-pressure area created over the Bay of Bengal bringing moisture-laden air to the region.
Asansol in West Burdwan recorded 434.5 mm rainfall in 24 hours till Thursday morning, while Bankura, the headquarter town of Bankura district, recorded 354.3 mm rain during the period, it said in a bulletin.

Cyclone Gulab was named by Pakistan.The panel comprises 13 countries namely, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Maldives, Oman, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, who choose the names of cyclones in the region.
"The remnant of the cyclonic storm “Gulab†is likely to emerge into the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat coast around September 30 and there is a likelihood for the system to further intensify over the northeast Arabian Sea during the subsequent 24 hours," IMD said in its latest bulletin on Tuesday.

The remnants of Cyclone Gulab are likely to enter the Arabian Sea on September 30 and intensify into a cyclonic storm a day later and then move towards Pakistan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
