Andal (Tamil: ???????, Ä??ā? ) or Godadevi is the only female Alvar among the 12 Alvar saints of South India. The Alvar saints are known for their affiliation to the Srivaishnava tradition of Hinduism.

Andal is known for her unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu, the God of the Gods. In many places in India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Andal is treated more than a saint and as a form of god herself and a shrine for Andal is dedicated in most Vishnu temples.
Orthodoxy posits the number of alvars as ten, though there are other references that include Andal and Madhurakavi Alvar, making the number twelve. Andal is the only female saint-poet in the 12 Alvars. Together with the contemporary sixty three Shaiva Nayanars, they are among the most important saints from Tamil Nadu.

Andal Kalyanam: Sri Meenakshi Temple Society celebrated the sacred wedding of Andal/Goda with Lord Sri Krishna in the form of Lord Ranganatha on Saturday, January 13. Andal, after observing the Paavai Nombu (vows) during the Dhanur month (December 15th to January 15th), merged with Lord Ranganatha in Srirangam.
Narayanan and Kesavan Veluthat, it is mentioned that “Andal was herself a 'devadasi' (woman bequeathed to a temple), who lived and died in the Srirangam temple.” A few scholars have pointed out that the mention of Andal here should be understood in a metaphorical sense.
Velukkudi Krishnan. Thiruppavai is a set of thrity poems in praise of Maha vishnu in Tamil. It was written by Andal also known as Godha. She lived in Srivilliputhur, now in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu in 9th century.
