Park Guell was worthwhile; the "Monumental Zone" NOT worth the money or time. There are great vistas of the city from the park. However, do not waste your money to enter the "Monumental Zone"--you can see almost all of that area from different parts of the park. It's not worth your time and money to gain access to it.
To get in to the Monumental Zone at Park Guell for free, you must visit outside of the regulated hours. In the morning, if you enter the Monumental Zone before it opens, stay as long as you want. Once you leave though, you must have a ticket to return during the regulated hours.
As in every museum or attraction in Barcelona, there are several ways to enter Parc Güell for free: During winter (November 1st-March 30th). On the first Sunday of every month, a limited number of free tickets are given out at the box office while supplies last. During summer (April 1st- October 31st).

There is a free shuttle bus (Bus Güell) that connects the Park Güell with the unterground station Alfons X (L4). The bus ride takes 15 minutes from the underground station to the entrance of the Park Güell. There ride back from the Park Güell to the undeground takes also around 15 minutes.
