So the main reason why Third Age armor is so expensive is because it is quite rare. For example, you cannot buy the whole sets in Grand Exchange, you can only get the pieces and those are pretty hard to acquire: only 1 in 185640 gets something. That's why it's so rarely traded.

Pickaxe is a tool within Skyrim. It is used primarily to mine the various ore beds found throughout Skyrim, needed specifically for smithing. Likewise, you can enchant a pickaxe like any other weapon, however, you cannot upgrade a pickaxe in any other way.
Pickaxes are usually advertised based on the weight of the blade. Common pickaxe weights are two pounds and five pounds. Five-pound pickaxes will be more difficult to swing, but the force created will be greater than that of a two-pound pickaxe.
Like the sledgehammer, which is highly similar in use, most pickaxes are far too heavy to wield effectively against an armed or skilled opponent. While usually not as sharp as a conventional melee weapon, the narrow spike and heavy head of the pick make it effective against armor.
Nurmof's Pickaxe Shop is a mining shop that sells all standard metal pickaxes. It is run by Nurmof. It is one of two shops that sells rune pickaxes, the other being Pickaxe-Is-Mine in East Keldagrim.
