ThinkPads can last for 5 years with reasonable use and maintenance. My T41 travelled with me every day for just over 5 years, when I replaced it with a T61p to move to Vista and to 64-bit processing. Seven years is a bit long.

Lenovo makes a broad range of laptops under the ThinkPad brand, and some are quite good. However, the poor management of the user experience and constant, annoying compromises across the product line makes the experience unpredictable. In summary, Lenovo laptops are very good, but they are not the best you can get.

The latest Lenovo laptop we've been trying out in the CRN Test Center is the ThinkPad T470S. Unlike the X1 Carbon, the laptop offers a touch-screen display option. But unlike the X1 Yoga, the touch screen only folds 180 degrees backward, rather than the full 360 degrees.
The Lenovo ThinkPad 13 starts at $550 (£470, AU$1,330) (though it's on sale right now on Lenovo's website for as low as $494), which is a great price for a simple, durably built notebook for basic activities. (It's also available in a Chromebook version that can be found online starting at about $400.)
