Google Chrome to wind down tracking cookies by 2022. On January 14, Google announced it would phase out the use of third-party cookies on its Chrome web browser. The firm explained it's making the change in response to user demands for greater privacy.

- In the Chrome browser window, click the More icon ( ), then click Settings.
- Click Advanced at the bottom of the screen.
- Under Privacy and security, click Site settings.
- Click Cookies and site data.
- Unselect Block third-party cookies.
Blocking and deleting cookiesAs well, disabling third-party cookies in your web browser can stop some types of tracking by advertisers and other third-party entities. This increases your user privacy and security. It's always a good idea to clear out these third-party cookies on a regular basis.
- Click the “Site Settings” option under the “Privacy and security” header.
- Find the switch where it says “Ask before sending” and toggle it off.
- You have now blocked all notifications.
- To whitelist a site, look for the list under “Allow,” click on “Add” and then type in the URL.
Launch Chrome and head to Settings > Advanced Settings > Content settings > Cookies > See all cookies and site data. While you can scroll through the multitude of stored cookies here, it has a simple search feature that allows you to find the specific offending site cookie and delete it.

According to Apple's John Wilander, the WebKit engineer behind the feature, Safari now blocks all third-party cookies. That means that, by default, no advertiser or website is able to follow you around the internet using the commonplace tracking technology.
