Remember also that end tables needn't match each other. As long as the sizes and styles relate to each other, it's perfectly acceptable to have different end tables on either side of a sofa or bed.
Specifically, your coffee table should be approximately two-thirds the length of your sofa. So for a 96-inch sofa, for instance, you should look for a coffee table that's 64 inches long.
What is a Side Table? Just as its name suggests, a side table is placed beside a piece of furniture a person would sit on, such as a couch or a bed. Its main purpose is to ensure that essential items are within easy reach. When placing side tables beside chairs and sofas, it's important to get the height right.
"In 2020, I am psyched to say goodbye to accent walls. Accent walls have been a trend for a while now and are beginning to fade. It is no longer the focal point of interiors. Single colored walls are making a greater impact when paired with colorful decor or furnishings.”
Distance between sofa and coffee table: 14-18 inches. You want the space to be close enough to reach for the remote or set down your drink, but far enough away to allow a little leg room.
The height of a coffee table is important. It should be no lower than 1-2 inches from the seat of your couch. The standard height for a table is 16-18 inches and pairs well with a typical sized couch. A higher sofa requires a taller table, one that is 20-21 inches in height.
Ideally, your ottoman would be the same height as your couch, but if you can't find an exact height match or it's more comfortable for your legs and back, you can choose an ottoman that's an inch or so shorter than your couch instead.
Coffee tables are also more sturdy, and offer more stable surface area for you to write or eat on. While ottomans add functionality in terms of seating and leg space, coffee tables add functionality for eating and drinking, which is great for those who love to entertain.
Refer to the 18-inch rule. But keep this tip in mind: “If you want to make the adjacent seating spread out, but you don't want the coffee table to be excessive in size (which it would have to be in order to stick to the 18-inch rule), place an occasional table between the chairs” and forgo the rule, Putlack says.
The ideal coffee table is 2/3rds the width of your sofa. If you have a sectional with a chaise, then the table should be 2/3rds the size of the sofa portion only. When centered with the sofa, there should be equal space on each side of the table.
Right HeightWith the arms of the average couch at 25 inches, this means that end tables may sit above the end of the couch. The end table should be equal to or lower than the highest point of the arm. End tables that are lower than the arm should be taller than the height of the seat cushions.
To find the ideal length, choose a coffee table that's roughly two-thirds the length of your sofa. For example, a sofa whose length is 84 inches would need a coffee table around 56 inches long.
Dull patches on the surface of marble indicate poor quality. The simplest way to check the quality of tiles is to examine the marble under light at a 45-degree angle. Some manufacturers use artificial colours to make the marble tiles look more attractive. You can confirm that by scratching the surface.
Dust the surface once or twice a week with a soft cloth. Wash the marble periodically with a cloth dampened with warm water, and, if necessary, a bit of mild dishwashing liquid. Remove the soap with another damp cloth. Never use dusting sprays or abrasive cleaners on your marble.
A marble dining table or end table will complement just about any décor and be an eye-catching conversation piece for guests. Marble is durable if it is cared for properly and consistently. With proper care, it just may outlast every other piece of furniture in your home! It will never really go out of style.
Italian marble is best for large dining roomsA durable and longtime favorite, this marble is simple, unique and perfect for your dining table top. Much like marble and onyx, this popular material is both heavy and intricate, and works well in larger dining rooms.
Pros and Cons of Marble TablesMarble is extremely durable and sturdy, but, as with many stone products, it does require regular maintenance, including regular resealing. Heavy objects can scratch the finish or even scratch the stone itself if the marble has not been properly sealed.
One of the best ways of protecting your marble from stains and damage is by spot cleaning it regularly with a marble cleaner. Shield your marble table or counters with a coverlet when the weather gets bad or move it into storage to prevent damage or etching.
Many retail in the range of $300 to $700, but exceptional examples will fetch more. For example, a rosewood and marble console table from 1860 sold on eBay in 2018 for almost $2,000. Marble coffee tables and parlor tables are additional options.
But generally speaking it's best to leave marble and other natural stone unsealed outdoors. This is particularly true for ground and wall tile. For tables and countertops sealing will help prevent stains (and possibly freeze damage) without any real detriment to the stone.
We're always getting questions, and one of our most common is whether you need a coffee table. Enter the coffee table. After your seating, it's the most important piece in your living room because it holds drinks, your remote, reading material, and is a place to put up your feet.
Generally speaking, cocktail tables are usually square or rectangular in shape, while coffee tables are often round or oval. The only clear thing is that both the cocktail table and coffee table are relative latecomers to the furniture party and have only been around for a century or two.
You can pair several side tables or end tables together and achieve the effect of a coffee table. Consider these round, white acrylic coffee tables. Two or more will provide the same space, and the rounded shapes will add dimension to your living space.
Use a Cocktail Height Table. We often forget about cocktail tables, but they're a great solution for living rooms where you may not want a coffee table. Our Olivia 30″ Round Table is one of our favorite pieces to use in living rooms. It's great next to a big armchair, but it works well floating in front of a sofa too.
