Zusak, an Australian author, has said that writing the book was inspired by two real-life events related to him by his German parents: the bombing of Munich, and a teenage boy offering bread to an emaciated Jew being marched through the streets, ending with both boy and Jewish prisoner being whipped by a soldier.
Many people who have read the book or watched the film adaptation believe that it is a true story based on real people and real events. However, it is important to understand that the book is a work of fiction. The events portrayed could never have happened.
Ludwig "Lali" Sokolov (né Eisenberg; 28 October 1916 – 31 October 2006), also known as The Tattooist of Auschwitz, was an Austro-Hungarian-born Slovak-Australian businessman and a Holocaust survivor.
A Little Life is Yanagihara's second novel. (The book was based on the real-life story of Daniel Gajdusek, disgraced Nobel prize winner and a distant friend of Yanagihara's family.) It took her a dozen years to write.
A Little Life is being adapted for the small screen. Author Hanya Yanagihara used the book's official Facebook page to announce on Tuesday that the best-seller and National Book Award finalist has been optioned by Scott Rudin and theater director Joe Mantello with the goal of producing a limited series.

Many years later, "just yesterday", Liesel dies as an old woman in the suburbs of Sydney, with a family and many friends, but has never forgotten Hans, Rosa, Rudy, and her brother. When Death collects her soul, he gives her the manuscript she lost in the bombing. She asks him if he read it and Death says yes.
What is the plot in the book thief?
In 1938, young orphan Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) arrives at the home of her new foster parents, Hans (Geoffrey Rush) and Rosa (Emily Watson). When Hans, a kindly housepainter, learns that Liesel cannot read, he teaches the child the wonders of the written language. Liesel grows to love books, even rescuing one from a Nazi bonfire. Though Liesel's new family barely scrape by, their situation becomes even more precarious when they secretly shelter a Jewish boy whose father once saved Hans' life.
A literary theme is the main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or other literary work. The theme of a story can be conveyed using characters, setting, dialogue, plot, or a combination of all of these elements.
Examples. Some common themes in literature are "love," "war," "revenge," "betrayal," "patriotism," "grace," "isolation," "motherhood," "forgiveness," "wartime loss," "treachery," "rich versus poor," "appearance versus reality," and "help from other-worldly powers."
Mein Kampf (German: [ma?n ˈkampf]; My Struggle or My Fight) is a 1925 autobiographical manifesto by Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler. The work describes the process by which Hitler became antisemitic and outlines his political ideology and future plans for Germany.
Liesel and her acts of thievery form the heart of the resistance in The Book Thief. She commits her first act of defiance against the Nazis at her brother's funeral, where she steals The Grave Digger's Handbook, the book from which she learns to read.

Green Eggs and Ham was banned in China from 1965 to 1991 because of its “portrayal of early Marxism.” It was also challenged by parents in California who thought Sam-I-Am was trying to seduce the protagonist—they saw the ham as a phallic symbol.
It is not the kind of story that has you crying one moment and laughing the next. The sadness surrounding Liesel's story creeps up on you, until suddenly you realise that it was like this for so many, and how serious it was, and is. In reflection, The Book Thief leaves behind a sense of guilt, in some ways.
Still, like I said, for me (and it is only my opinion), Max and Liesel DO stay together, but not necessarily in the way some people think…But of course, I'm still more than happy for readers to believe they do get married and live their lives together.
DALLAS (AP) — The children's book “Where's Waldo? Santa Spectacular” is among the 10,000 books banned from Texas prisons, but Adolf Hitler's autobiography “Mein Kampf” makes the cut.

"The Book Thief" was published for adults in Zusak's native Australia, and I strongly suspect it was written for adults. Adults will probably like it (this one did), but it's a great young-adult novel. Many teenagers will find the story too slow to get going, which is a fair criticism.
The classic children's book was banned by the State Board of Education in Texas in 2010 due to a simple mistake. A board member mixed up Martin with another author named Bill Martin who had written a book for adults titled "Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation."
