Cost of high school in Canada
Public secondary or high school is free in Canada for residents of the country. Many schools charge fees for international students, which can range from approximately CAD 8,000 to CAD 14,000 per year.Canadian-UK grade equivalents
So GCSEs are roughly equivalent to grade eleven, that is, one year short of Canadian high school graduation. A-levels, on the other hand, are about a year more advanced than the Canadian grade twelve.Yet, Canada has consistently been a high performing country on international assessments of student performance. Compared to the U.S., the main difference is that Canada has a much smaller proportion of low performing students; performance at the top end of the distribution is quite similar.

Elementary school: Elementary or primary school normally runs from Grades 1 to 12. In many provinces in Canada, it also includes Kindergarten. In Ontario, elementary school includes 2 years of Kindergarten—Junior Kindergarten (JK) and Senior Kindergarten (SK).
Not harder but certainly better. I think Canada ranks around 16th in the world in terms of quality of education—not good but better than the USA'S 27th. American education tends to be very narrowly focused on the USA.
High school: High school, also sometimes called “senior high school” or “secondary high school,” marks the end of compulsory education in Canada. It normally runs from Grade 9 to 12. In Quebec, after Grade 11 students instead proceed to a pre-college or university program such as CEGEP.
Education and Skills
- British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta are the top performers among all the provinces, earning “B” grades on the Education and Skills report card.
- Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador all earn “D's” overall, while P.E.I.
In Canada, the twelfth grade is referred to as Grade 12. Students generally enter their Grade 12 year when they are 16 or 17 years old. If they are 16 years old, they will be turning 17 by December 31 of that year.
Canada. In Canada, Grade 10 is the 10th year of mandatory schooling. Depending on province, it may be the first (grades 10-12 high school), second (grades 9-12 high school), third (grades 8-12 high school), or fourth year of high school (grades 7-11 high school).
From a Canadian perspective "high school" usually means the last four years of your education up to the age of 18, after which you go on to university. Sixth form is post secondary, but is attached to the initial secondary school. A college is the same thing, but a separate entity i.e. No high school provision.

Both GCSE (O-levels) and A-level exams should be available at specific examination centres in Canada. As far as I know, six of them exist: Metropolitan Community College in Mission, BC. Vancouver Community College in Vancouver, BC.
Students who have completed their secondary level studies, and have CSEC or an equivalent certification are eligible for this examination. The CAPE is equivalent to the British Advanced Levels (A-levels). The examination may vary by region.
International AS Level is typically taken at the mid-point of an A Level programme. Schools can offer AS Level as a qualification in its own right to increase breadth in the curriculum and allow students to complement other subjects they are studying. In South Africa, AS Level is equivalent to Grade 12.
Some colleges will accept good IGCSE “O” level results but a Secondary School diploma (after 12 years of studies) is usually required. After IGCSE “O” levels, completion of secondary school in one year is available in Canada.
Conditional Admissions
For e.g.- Maths is required for pursuing Nursing in Canada but few Colleges/Universities give you admission in pathway programs if you didn't have Maths in 12th. Alternatively, all you need to do is- pass a Maths test, which checks your conceptual knowledge of class 10th Mathematics.Clothes are cheaper in the UK. Overall, there isn't much of a difference. Income and then disposable income: Incomes are much higher in Canada compared to the UK on average and the economy is quite diversified (much to my surprise) compared to the UK.
Overall, the UK is slightly higher in living costs compared to Canada with grocery prices around 2.8% more expensive, according to Numbeo. It is also worth remembering that UK universities offer international students the option to live in halls of residence.
Tuition Fee Costs
Average fees in Canada are broader and offer both cheaper and more expensive options than the UK, dependent on your programme of study and choice of institution. The bottom end of the average in Canada is lower than the UK, with average undergraduate fees starting at US$7,500.Yes, it is alot safer. Asking about the crime rate in Canada is like asking about the crime rate in the UK. In both London and Toronto, murders have occurred mostly in the same parts of the city to mostly the same group of people.
The cost of living in Canada for international students is cheaper than in the UK. So, although the yearly cost is cheaper, over the course of study you will need US$30,000 to US$36,000 in total, making it only slightly less expensive than the UK.
Undergraduate course length
On average, it takes three years to gain an undergraduate degree at a UK university, in comparison to the standard four years of study in Canada. This means that thousands of dollars can be saved on overall tuition costs at the end of your degree. For postgraduate courses, tuition fees average at a higher cost of US$12,500 – US$25,000 per year. Average fees in Canada are broader and offer both cheaper and more expensive options than the UK, dependent on your programme of study and choice of institution.
Canada is not a state of the USA. It is a country in its own right but it is part of the British Commonwealth (which isn't the same as a Colony).
Britain is smaller than British Columbia but has roughly twice the number of people living there – and if you're coming from London the difference will be even greater. In Canada, even the tube regularly has empty carriages and what Canadians think of as busy, us Brits think of as quiet and relaxed.
The Ontario education system had five years of secondary education, the fifth year known as "grade 13" from 1921 to 1988. Then, grade 13 was replaced in 1993 by the OAC for students starting high school (grade 9). The OAC continued to act as a fifth year of secondary education until it was phased out in 2003.

In Elementary school students are retained when they fail one of the basic areas: math, language and social sciences. In secondary school, students are allowed a maximum of two courses failed in order to be promoted. If they fail three or more, they should repeat.
The school day in elementary schools is usually from 8.30am to 3 or 3.30pm, with an hour for lunch. There are also usually two 15-minute breaks (recesses) to allow students to let off steam between classes (and to allow teachers to find the aspirin). In high schools, hours are usually from 8.30am until 2.30pm.
Skipping School (Truancy)
Students must stay in school or an equivalent learning program approved by the Ministry of Education until they are 18. Parents who neglect to send, or refuses to let, their children go to school can be charged for their child's truancy.20 Best Education System in the World
