You can call the Medicare general enquiries line to make some updates to your name or date of birth. You'll need to prove your identity over the phone. Updates we can make for you over the phone include: spelling of names, for example changing Brown to Browne or Marie to Maree.
You can make a claim with Centrelink using the name that Centrelink currently has on file. Be sure your bank details are current, and this can be easily changed online through the Centrelink Plus app. You can then update your name once wait times are reduced.
Yes, Centrelink can access your bank account, but only if you give them a reason to. At this point, Centrelink can legally request that your bank hand over your personal bank account details, to review your finances.
