Those apex seals don't tend to last long before they need replacing, either. Rebuilding a Wankel at 80,000-100,000 miles is typical, and earlier than most piston engine need such exhaustive work.
FDs right there. the nice ones are expensive, because making a beat up one nice is tragically expensive. the FD also has a lot of wear parts, so used parts are usually a no go, because if it broke on your car, then it broke on every other FD. the other thing is that for the most part Mazda is the only parts supplier.
I tend to lean towards the 1993–1995 United States models, or 1992–2002 in japan. The nice sleek curves of the body are very appealing, and twin turbocharged from the factory are a very big bonus. The car is very nimble and light, with tons of power. The fd model came with 276 hp.
Rotary engines have a low thermal efficiency as a result of a long combustion chamber and unburnt fuel making it to the exhaust. They also have problems with rotor sealing as a result of uneven temperatures in the combustion chamber since combustion only occurs in one portion of the engine.
Mazda Ownership
Founded in 1920 in Japan, Mazda originally manufactured tools and expanded to automobiles in the 1930s. Today, Mazda is a wholly owned Japanese company, but at one point, Ford one-third of Mazda. Ford has since sold its shares in the company, and various Japanese stakeholders. The real reason they stopped selling the RX-7 here, as reported in Autoweek magazine, was the OBD II standards which went into effect for 1996 cars. It would have cost Mazda 5 million dollars to bring the RX-7 into compliance, and having sold just 500 1995 models, well, you do the math.
Yes, all RX-7's from 1993-1995 Model Years (FD3S) when stock are twin turbo's.
LIST OF MAZDA RX7 MODEL VARIANTS

The current RX-8 has a naturally aspirated (non turbo) 1.3L twin-rotor engine. It makes 240hp approx. but with much less torque than the RX-7. only the high end RX7 FCs and FDs came with the twin turbo.
It's just not legal. States don't verify NHTSA regulations to hand out license plates. In most cases if you can get it into the country, you can get plates for it (which is different if you try it with a car for which a model was never sold in the US like a Skyline). Again, that doesn't make it "legal".

They are reliable IF you look after them and you HAVE to look after them. Allowing time for turbos to wind down after a blast, general looking after like oil etc. Great fun to drive though. And the noise they make really really turns heads.

The second generation of RX-7, known as the FC, was offered as a 2-seater coupé with a 2+2 option available in some markets, as well as in a convertible bodystyle. This was powered by the 13B rotary engine, offered in naturally aspirated or turbocharged forms.
FR stands for 'Front engine – Rear wheel drive'. FR is a kind of car layout that has the engine mounted at the front, and it is driven by the rear wheel. FF stands for 'Front engine – Front wheel drive'. FF car has its engine installed at the front, and it is driven by the front wheel.
Front Wheel Drive. Most of the time, front-wheel drive cars get better gas mileage because the weight of the drivetrain is less than that of a rear-wheel vehicle. FWD vehicles also get better traction because the weight of the engine and transmission are over the front wheels.
noun. the back of something, as distinguished from the front: The porch is at the rear of the house. the space or position behind something: The bus driver asked the passengers to move to the rear.
The side where the clutch or torque converter attach. The other sides are in relation to the rear: the side opposite the rear is the front, and the left side of the engine is the side on your left as you look at the engine from the rear, and likewise the right.
The choice between FWD and RWD in cars typically comes down to driver's preference. Even the front end of a semi-trailer rests on the rear wheels of the semi-truck. Meanwhile passengers in the bus are also always behind the driver. Furthermore, most modern buses have engines installed in the back too.
FF - Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive. FR - Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive. MR - Mid-Engine, Rear Wheel Drive.
It is a type of car powertrain layout. Although the term "mid-engine" can mean the engine is placed anywhere in the car such that the centre of gravity of the engine lies between the front and rear axles, it is usually used for sports cars and racing cars where the engine is behind the passenger compartment.
