Thrace is a non-playable faction in Rome: Total War. Thrace can be made playable by simple modifications to the game's files. In the game, it is in the center of action between Roman Italy, Greece and the eastern portion of Asia Minor. They have a limited selection of units, however.

Sapping is a term used in siege operations to describe the digging of a covered trench (a "sap") to approach a besieged place without danger from the enemy's fire. Once the saps were close enough, siege engines or cannon could be moved through the trenches to get closer to—and enable firing at—the fortification.
If you feel it was too easy you can increase the difficult by reducing spending in campaign, or spend less point in allocating troops in skirmish. Human opponents are more difficult than AI. I suggest you should wait for Total War Rome II or other RTS games and you will have real challenges again.
Protectorates cede some of their income to their protector nations, in exchange for a pledge from the protector faction to ally itself with it and declare war on enemies invading the protectorate and vice versa. Protectorates also automatically grant indefinite military access to their protector faction.

The Total War series can be difficult games to get into. - Greenskins.
- Vampire Coast.
- Bretonnia.

This curve only gets steeper if you haven't played any Total War games, I imagine. The game does have a simple tutorial during the campaign to work with, but I found that I was still confused about 70% of the time anyway. You feel rewarded this way, and get much better at the game as it goes along.
The Numidians are a non playable faction in Rome: Total War. They occupy most of Africa and Libya. They have a limited and fairly weak selection of desert units, most which have good morale.
