Pride is often driven by poor self-worth and shame. We feel so badly about ourselves that we compensate by feeling superior. We look for others' flaws as a way to conceal our own.
Pride of Appearance

Pride kills your love for God, kills your passion for God, and kills your desire for God. Pride is behind every sin ever committed, every rebellion against God and His Word, and every fall of the heart of a person from the loving embrace of His Creator.
Pride can be detrimental for people because: * The individual can feel so proud that they refuse to acknowledge their own mistakes. If people refuse to acknowledge their own mistakes they will become stuck in their recovery and possibly relapse.
Pride alienates from God. Whether consciously or not, the proud are estranged from God. As May explains, “Pride is self- devotion, self-justification, and self-glorying in contempt of God.” This contempt may give rise to open revolt, but not always. It is usually expressed as “aversion” of God.
No wonder God says, "I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech" (Proverbs 8:13). The Bible also warns, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18).
Pride vs ProudPride refers to the satisfaction that an individual gains from something. Proud, on the other hand, refers to the feeling of pride. Pride can be used as a noun or a verb, but proud is an adjective. This is the difference between the two words.

What is reverse pride? Having your confidence taken away from what your ultimate goal is can lead you towards a feeling of unsatisfaction which can affect your pride negatively and make you feel like you are not doing anything worthwhile. In other words, you find yourself dealing with reverse pride.

Developing Humility
- Spend time listening to others.
- Practice mindfulness, and focus on the present.
- Be grateful for what you have.
- Ask for help when you need it.
- Seek feedback from others on a regular basis.
- Review your actions against the language of pride.
Heart humility is being honest with ourselves and others, and expressing our gratitude and respect for all involved. Often when people ponder humility, they think of monks, nuns or other religious figures who have dedicated their lives to being meek and self-effacing.
The definition of humility is the feeling or attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others or having a lack of pride. In reality, humility is a type of modesty that will get you very far in your life as a person, a contender, and a leader.
For example, humble people handle stress more effectively and report higher levels of physical and mental well-being. They also show greater generosity, helpfulness, and gratitude—all things that can only serve to draw us closer to others.
For leaders, humility can provide a balance to the self-serving behaviors that often drive them to be successful. Humble and modest leaders are willing to admit their mistakes, put aside their ego and empower others. And that makes them better, more successful moral leaders.
