“The jacket should pull,” says Brooke. “If it doesn't, it's too big.” Now take your hand out and look at the lapels; they should sit flat against your chest. “If they're bent and stand away from your chest, or you can see tugging around the button, you need to size up.”
How do I find out my jacket size? Measure your chest and hip width in either inch or centimeters. If you chest width in inch is between 34 and 36 inches, and your hip width between 39 and 40 centimeters, your perfect size is “L” (US) or a 40 (European Size).
How to measure a jacket
- Chest is measured along line A.
- Shoulder is measured along line B, from shoulder tip to shoulder tip.
- Sleeve Length is measured from point C to D to E. (Point C is the centre seam on the inside of the jacket neck).
- Back Length is measured along line F, one the back of the jacket.
They are the exact same fit on the body and torso length, but the arms are one inch longer. We suggest you choose the same size as you have chosen for the sports blazers.
To correctly determining your suit size, you need to measure your (1) height, (2) chest circumference, (3) hip circumference, and (4) waistband. You also need to know your (5) step length (along the leg, from crotch to the ground) and (6) your side length (from the waist over the hip to the sole).

| 13 – 14 years | 64½ | 26¾ |
Blazer sizes should correspond to your chest size (i.e., if you are a man with a 38" chest, you should probably fit best in a size 38 blazer). Waist - Measure the area where you want your trousers to sit, keeping the tape comfortably loose.
The difference between a sport coat, blazer, and suit coat comes down to patterns, buttons and fabric. A sport coat is a patterned jacket that coordinates with trousers that are not made of the same fabric or have the same pattern. A blazer is a solid color jacket with contrasting (often metal) buttons.
Should you buy a coat a size up or down if you are between sizes? Definately, buy the coat slightly larger. Not only will it keep you warmer because of the air pockets on the inside, but it will also allow you to wear layers when the weather gets really cold.

A modern fit suit falls down the middle between a classic and slim fit. While it's not cut quite as close to the body as a slim fit, it's a tighter fit than a classic. The pants in a modern fit suit are straight legged, but with a more extra fabric than a slim fit pant.
It's more important than most people think! A good suit or sports jacket should fall past the waist and drape over the top of the curve formed by the buttocks. An ideal fit will cover a man down to the point where his butt starts to curve back inward, and stop there (but anywhere in that general region is okay).
A modern fit has snug sleeves, as well as a 7/8-inch neck rib. Like a classic fit, it's a shirt you can wear for just about anything. Clothes with this fit include: Short Sleeve Crew Neck with Pocket.
Athletic fit jeans are jeans that have a looser, relaxed fit above the knee, but a more tailored straight fit below the knee. This creates a pair of jeans that will show natural shape while still providing plenty of space for your thighs to breathe.
The classic fit, also called the traditional fit, emphasizes comfort and precise cut throughout the chest and waist. It has a broader cut across the shoulders and sides, creating a domineering, confident appearance.
Hold your arms out to the side and have your partner wrap the tape measure around your torso, making sure the tape is snug in your armpits. Lower your arms and have your partner check to make sure the tape is level across your shoulder blades in the back and over the widest part of your chest in the front.

Advanced Member. Your chest size is your suit size. The chest measure of the suit is usually two to four inches larger than your chest.
The difference is in the length of the sleeves mostly, and a slight bit in the length of the jacket itself.
Tailored jackets can be ordered in 'Short', 'Long', and 'Regular' sizes to accommodate men of all different heights. Long jackets measure 1 3/16″ longer in the sleeve length and body length than Regular jackets, while Short jackets measure 1 3/16″ shorter in the sleeve length and body length than Regular.
Examples. 40R Suit/Jacket/Coat would be 40” chest with regular body length and regular sleeve length – Refer to Brand Size Guide for actual measurements. 34R Trousers/Chino's/Jeans would be 34” waist with regular inside leg - refer to brand size guide for actual measurements.

Let's break it down by size. Suit and tuxedo jackets are sized in numbers, typically between 34 and 52, plus a letter or two.
The #1 most important fit of a blazer is in the shoulders. Make sure the seam sits squarely on your natural shoulder and isn't too tight or too loose. If the shoulder pad makes contact with the wall before you do, you're in divot territory.
Signs that the fit is wrongIf the jacket wrinkles, or pulls across the chest, or you are unable to form a fist when the top or middle button are fastened then it is too tight. The exception to this is on jackets with very short lapels that are specifically cut to form a very slim silhouette.
Here's how to tell if your suit is too big: The shoulder – the shoulder of your suit jacket should conform to the shoulder on your body. That is to say the seam should rest where your arm meets your shoulder, without hanging over the edges like a linebacker's padding.
Jacket sleeves should fall where the base of your thumb meets your wrist. If you're a watch-wearer, a tailor can take up the sleeve of your shirts and jackets a little more as to more adequately show off the goods, but generally speaking, this guideline sets you up nicely for achieving the next step.
The lapels shouldn't be hanging too loosely over your body, nor should the suit jacket be flaring up (too tight). As a general rule of thumb, your flat hands should be able to slip into your suit under your lapels, with your top button or middle button fastened.
