Every TV needs to be calibratedMy TV picture was nice out of the box, but after calibration, it became fantastic. The colors are true to real life, not oversaturated. The black land white evels are so much better! Completely worth the investment!
General Picture Settings
- Picture mode: Cinema or Movie (NOT Sports, Vivid, Dynamic etc)
- Sharpness: 0% (This is the most crucial one to set to zero — although Sony sometimes uses 50% for the “off” setting, confusingly.
- Backlight: Whatever is comfortable, but usually at 100% for daytime use.
- Contrast: 100%
- Brightness: 50%
This is used to describe the hyper-realistic look created when TV manufacturers apply a technology called frame interpolation, and Hollywood hates it. The good news…you don't have to live with it. Frame interpolation was created to solve a perceived problem, that motion on high resolution 4K televisions appears blurry.
Windows. On Windows, open the Control Panel and search for "calibrate." Under Display, click on "Calibrate display color." A window will open with the Display Color Calibration tool. It steps you through the following basic image settings: gamma, brightness and contrast, and color balance.
We generally recommend the picture mode labeled Movie (Samsung), Cinema (LG and Sony), or Calibrated (Vizio) because these modes come the closest to official HD and UHD standards—and therefore are much closer to what the filmmakers and TV directors intended. You should avoid the Standard, Dynamic, or Vivid mode.
Increasing brightness of an image will light out all colors so the original light ones will become up to white. Increasing contrast on an image will increase the difference between light and dark areas so light areas will become lighter and dark areas will become darker.
Calibrating your TV is an ongoing process of trial and error, but the good news is that you only have to do it once. To get the most from your pricey new OLED panel, you'll need to manually calibrate your TV to reflect your room setup and personal viewing preferences.
40-50 for backlight is good to retain best black level and shadow detail. Raise the contrast up between 85-95 if the overall picture is too dim. Contrast make whites brighter and increases luminance for colors.
How do I Unzoom my TV screen? Press the button and cycle through the screen ratios until the picture returns to normal. If this does not work, press MENU and go to PICTURE SETTINGS or ASPECT RATIO in the TV MENU and set the screen size accordingly to “unzoom” the screen.

- Adjust your TV settings (basic)
Make sure HDR is on, and look for the color to be set to Native mode, if it's available. Some TVs also offer an HDR Boost mode. It works like upscaling, taking standard programs and attempting to boost the color and brightness rather than just the resolution.
Color temperature is a measurement the hue of the picture. A low color temperature results in warm (reddish) pictures and a high color temeprature results in cool (bluish) pictures on the screen.

- Turn on the monitor and allow it to warm up for a few minutes (this will take longer on older monitors).
- Turn on the color bars setting on your camera, editing computer or other device.
- Adjust your monitor's brightness, contrast, chroma and phase to their midpoints.
On your TV remote control, first press the arrow up button then the arrow down button. After pressing the remote buttons, unplug your TV from power within 5 seconds. Wait 15 seconds and plug the TV pack into the power outlet. Wait 10 more seconds and test the TV to see if the issue has been solved.
Commonly, muddy, overly saturated or strangely hued colors result from a simple misuse of the television's built-in color settings. This is often the result of different performance characteristics in the thousands of tiny components that are used. These add up and effectively mean that each TV needs slightly different calibration settings.
On nearly all TVs, the sharpness control adds something called "edge enhancement." That's exactly what it sounds like. The edges in the image are enhanced, essentially by adding a thin outline or halo to them. This makes them more visible.
