You should watch the original "Knights of Zodiac" , instead of that Netflix Adaptation , obviously with a modern sub or dub , because if you were from USA , that country had a bad adaptation in the 90's , in which makes Saint Seiya forever behind to DBZ in that country and , in some extent , to other english speaking

Unfortunately the Lost Canvas was never popular (and still isn't) in Japan. This means the OVA was never continued, but it wasn't officially cancelled since it's not a TV series. The OVA left off at the best part of the story =( The Gold Saints in the lost canvas timeline is better than the current goldies IMO.
He died after falling off a cliff and wounds caused by Shura.
I usually suggest not to skip the filler because it is simply too much of it and skipping it takes away, if you are interested in reading the original story there is always the manga lying around.
Ikki himself can never truly die for good; while he can be killed, the constellation of the Phoenix grants him the power of resurrection.
The Steel Saints are saints wearing armors created by Dr. Asamori (supported in the beginning by Mitsumasa Kido). Unlike the other Saints, the Steel Saints' powers come from their robotic armors and not from the Cosmos.
