From what I can tell however, is that having debt is not considered a sin. It is something to be weighed heavily in your heart and your overall financial plan.
Through diligence, knowledge, wisdom and self-discipline you can
be rich.
10 Signs You'll be Rich according to the Bible
- You are hardworking.
- You walk your talk (you do what you say).
- You are righteous.
- You are faithful and you know how to wait.
- You practice abstinence.
As we turn to the Bible for wisdom and discretion, let's meditate on this piece of encouragement: Don't close off your heart when you're in the situation of being asked to give to beggars. “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you” (Matthew 7:12).
“Money and possessions are the second most referenced topic in the Bible – money is mentioned more than 800 times – and the message is clear: Nowhere in Scripture is debt viewed in a positive way.”
The scripture I quoted earlier actually ends with Jesus saying, "for where your treasure is, there your heart will also be." Those who I know that have had the most financial success are smart with their money but also generous. They don't just put it all away waiting for disaster to strike, they also give.
"But there's also, you know, in the Scripture, tells us in 2 Thessalonians chapter 3:10 he says, uh, 'for even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: if a man will not work, he shall not eat. ' And then he goes on to say 'we hear that some among you are idle'
Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven."
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. He found that the Bible far outsold any other book, with a whopping 3.9 billion copies sold over the last 50 years. "Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-tung" came in second with 820 million copies sold, and "Harry Potter" came in third with 400 million copies sold.
"Best selling" refers to the estimated number of copies sold of each book, rather than the number of books printed or currently owned. According to Guinness World Records as of 1995, the Bible is the best-selling book of all time, with an estimated 5 billion copies sold and distributed.
The Bible. Apparently, thieves missed the "Thou shalt not steal" part of the Ten Commandments. According to experts, the Bible is the most commonly stolen book. The Holy Bible is available for free at many places of worship, so perhaps there's less guilt associated with pilfering a copy.
Through 29 December 2012, the top five best selling translations (based on both dollar and unit sales) were as follows:
- New International Version.
- King James Version.
- New Living Translation.
- New King James Version.
- English Standard Version.

At the top of the list, unsurprisingly, is the Bible. The Guinness Book of World Records estimates that more than 5 billion copies of the Bible have been printed. Other religious texts are also high on the list: the Quran with 800 million copies, the Book of Mormon with 120 million.
There's money in your Bible.
Ah, the ubiquitous Gideon Bibles, found in hotel rooms of all types for decades. Rumor has it that you can find $100 bills in these Bibles as "rewards" for reading them or as charity for those who might be in need.Matthew 6:24
For him, the root lies in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”2 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV)
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”Tithe, (from Old English teogothian, “tenth”), a custom dating back to Old Testament times and adopted by the Christian church whereby lay people contributed a 10th of their income for religious purposes, often under ecclesiastical or legal obligation. The money (or its equivalent in crops, farm stock, etc.)
Wealth, according to the Bible, is like fire, good but dangerous. Everyone sees the good, so the Bible warns us about the danger. Danger one: the desire to get rich (I Timothy 6:10). Danger two: worry about money (Matthew 6:25-34).
Retirement and Your Legacy
One of my favorite verses related to the topic of retirement says “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous”(Proverbs 13:22 nkjv). The best gifts you can give are your time and your presence now.A popular current text, the King James Version shows 1 Timothy 6:10 to be: For the love of money is the root of all of evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (The full verse is shown but Bold added being the subject of this page.)
Unfortunately, because they are so heavy, they didn't hold up very well. Most are in deplorable condition. To have value, they must be nearly perfect. Those are worth between $100 and $300.
Paper. Because of their length, Bibles have to be printed on very thin paper in order to achieve a suitably compact book. Nevertheless, irrespective of how thick or thin it is, paper in a Bible should have sufficient strength to sustain the usage it will receive.
The last sale of a complete Gutenberg Bible took place in 1978, which sold for $2.2 million. This copy is now in Austin, Texas. The price of a complete copy today is estimated at $25−35 million.
There are a few American Bibles that can be quite valuable. It's possible you could have a Saur Bible, the first European language bible printed in America in Germantown, Pa., in 1743. It's in German, and will put $5,000 or more in your pocket if in fine condition.
Condition is very important and will greatly influence value. A beaten-up old book that is falling apart will have little value. First editions are sought-after by book collectors and a first edition is usually more valuable than a later printing. A first edition signed by the author will have even greater value.
