When you sign up for Sky, you can choose between the Sky Q 1TB and 2TB boxes. Sky Q 2TB is the higher-end of the two, hence more expensive. The standard Sky Q 1TB box lets you store 175 hours of HD TV, can record three channels while you watch a fourth, can stream to one tablet, and supports two Sky Q Mini boxes.
Re: How can I purchase an additional Sky Q mini box? On your Sky Q TV Main box Home -> My Account -> Upgrade and accessories -> Browse Shop -> Sky Q Mini boxes.
Compared to the Sky+, Sky Q does not require you to physically connect additional Sky boxes to your satellite dish to get access to shows in different rooms. The Sky multi-room feature allows you to use wireless mini boxes that communicate with your main Sky Q box.
Connect up to four Mini boxes and watch on two TVs at the same time with the 1TB box, or three TVs at the same time with the 2TB box. You can even pause in one room and pick up where you left off in another!
Mini boxes don't have any tuners of their own but stream content from a 1TB or 2TB box. Sky Q Mini boxes mean users can pause broadcasts or recordings in one room and then continue to watch in a different room.
The Sky Q Mini box is your gateway to viewing Sky content in other rooms. This connects to your main Sky Q box, either by Wi-Fi or via powerline networking, letting you use your electrical wiring to carry the information between boxes. Powerline networking is built-in across Sky Q devices.
If you upgrade to Sky Q, you can watch TV in different rooms with a Sky Q Mini box and Sky Q experience or Multiscreen subscription. tvLINKs don't work with Sky Q boxes as there are no RF outlets on the Sky Q box.
Can I Buy a Sky Q Mini Box and Install it Myself. Absolutely! You can purchase one mini box yourself and if you know the installation, you can do it yourself. By doing this, you can save some money while making the mini box purchase.
Re: Moving mini sky q box@Linda+Ann+Marie Just turn it off unplug it from the TV and plug it back in the new room. It should just work if you follow the on screen instructions.
Q Mini boxes only act as wireless hotspots for non-Q devices where Sky is the ISP. There's no way for other devices to access the wireless signal they are broadcasting when there isn't a Sky Hub in use, as it's on the Hub where the visible network password is recorded and set.
Sky Q Multiscreen subscription required to: 1) Watch TV around the home on tablets or more than one TV. A fee of €120 is payable per additional TV and we'll lend you one Sky Q Mini per extra TV, at no cost. For new Sky TV customers there is no charge for the first additional TV.
Sky Q comes bundled with new set-top boxes, an unrecognisable touchpad remote control and an upgraded home broadband hub.
A Mini box will not function with your main Q box as there is no Multiscreen / Q Experience subscription associated with your account, and your account is linked to your main Q box via your viewing card.
For example, currently existing Sky customers will receive a 2nd FREE box and set-up when upgrading to Sky Q Experience » (formally known as Multiscreen). Upgrade to super-fast cable Broadband, receive a FREE Sky Broadband Hub and pay a one-off activation and set-up charge of just £59.95 £19.95 (check offers below).
4. You have to sign up to a new 18-month minimum term for the Sky Q Experience and pay the standard full price for the Sky Q Experience (unless you have any offers). We will loan you one Sky Q box, one Sky Q Mini and any other relevant kit, for no cost, for the time you have a Sky TV subscription.
Netflix is not free via Q but some of the packages include it, if you have one of these you don't need the two subscriptions as you can use the Sky one elsewhere.
Re: Sky Q upgrade with own dish@Brian+Ellis Yes no Q box will work without the LNB being changed.
Sky Q really shows its worth when you add in extra devices, including Mini boxes that you plug into other TVs in your home. These stream live channels, on-demand TV and recordings from your main box, giving you access to your full Sky Q package from around your home.
Re: Upgrade 1tb to 2tb UHD@TellyJunky Yes it can be done. If you have an old 1Tb box that isnt UHD capable then you need to call Sky, add the UHD pack and explain that you also need a UHD capable box.
