Today, the islands welcoming visitors are Nassau & Paradise Island, Eleuthera & Harbour Island, Acklins & Crooked Island, The Exumas, Bimini, Andros, The Berry Islands, Cat Island, Long Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, Inagua, and Mayaguana.
Nassau and Paradise Island were largely unscathed by Hurricane Dorian, beyond some heavy rainfall. (In fact, thousands of evacuees from the affected islands headed to Nassau after the storm.) Cruise lines continue to visit Nassau's popular port, and all resorts, restaurants, and tour operators are operating as normal.
There are more than 700 islands that make up the Bahamas, and several that are home to the country's best-known resorts are open as normal. The islands that are currently closed due to the storm's impact are Abaco and Grand Bahama.

Hurricane Dorian hit the northernmost islands — the Abaco Islands, and Grand Bahama Island, which had a population of around 70,000. Hurricane Dorian first hit the Abaco Islands as a Category 5 storm with 185 mph winds. That ties it for the strongest landfall on record.
Both Jamaica and the Bahamas offer a good variety of water sports activities, beaches, and nightlife, but if you're more into cultural activities, Jamaica is the solid winner. Bahamas feels more like a resort island that's a paradise built for tourists.
Besides Nassau and nearby Paradise Island, the storm spared Andros, the Exumas, Eleuthera and farther out, in southeastern islands such as Cat Island and Long Island, most of the island nation never experienced tropical-storm-force winds.

The Prime Minister said Tuesday that parts of Abaco are 60% destroyed. The Bahamas' southern islands, including its capital, Nassau, were not affected by the storm.

Nassau Paradise Island wants you to know that, despite the high-profile Hurricane Dorian barreling through the Bahamas, it is still open and ready for tourists. The island's tourism board released a new video and campaign, alerting people that it was unaffected by the storm.

With sustained winds of 185 mph, Dorian was the strongest hurricane on record to strike the Bahamas since records began in 1851. It was also the first Category 5 to make landfall on Grand Bahama Island, and at 185 mph was the strongest hurricane on record to hit Abaco Island.
