Smart cards can be used for travel inside Sapporo City and around its outskirts via public transportation. At present, smart cards that can be used in Sapporo are SAPICA (Sapporo Municipal Transportation), Kitaca (JR Hokkaido), Suica (JR East), PASMO, manaca, TOICA, PiTaPa, ICOCA, Hayakaken, nimoca, and SUGOCA.
From SapporoThere are multiple trains per hour between Sapporo and Otaru along the JR Hakodate Main Line. The one way trip costs 750 yen and takes 30 minutes by rapid train or 45 minutes by local train. About two trains per hour continue on to New Chitose Airport (70 minutes, 1910 yen one way).
The journey from Sapporo to Niseko usually takes around 3-4 hours depending on your start point and costs about 3,500 yen. Similarly, various bus companies also offer direct services to Niseko from New Chitose Airport.
From Sapporo Station Bus Terminal, take the Jotetsu Bus number 7 or 8 for Jozankei Onsen. Buses depart two or three times an hour, take 75 minutes and cost 790 yen one way. Alternatively, you can catch Jotetsu Bus number 12 from Makomanai Station, the terminal station of Sapporo's Namboku Subway Line.

By train. Take the JR Tohoku/Hokkaido Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto (4 hours) and transfer to the Hokuto limited express to Sapporo (3.5 hours). The entire one way trip costs around 29,000 yen and takes around eight hours. It is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass and JR East South Hokkaido Rail Pass.

Train travel is quickest and most economical method of travel here. Buy a 3-day pass if you're traveling around Hokkaido. Taking the kaisoku train is the most logical way to get to Sapporo from the New Chitose Airport. It gets you to Sapporo station in 36 minutes, and there is a train leaving every 15 minutes.
