In theory, a baseball game could go on forever; in practice, however, they eventually end. In addition to that rule, a game might theoretically end if both the home and away team were to run out of players to substitute (see Substitutions, below).
The object of baseball is to score more runs than your opponent. The idea is to hit the ball thrown at you as far as you can before running around 4 bases to complete a run. Once a player manages to get around the four bases before being tagged out, then another batter steps in.
Mercy rule. The International Baseball Federation mercy rules ends the game when one team is up 15 runs after five innings or 10 runs after seven innings. World Baseball Classic games are called when a team is up 10 runs after seven innings.
In terms of scoring by one team in a single game, the Chicago NL team, then known as the White Stockings, set the record with its 36-7 victory over Louisville in 1897. This was the last of eight major-league games prior to 1900 in which 30 or more runs were scored by one team.
Henry Chadwick is a little-known baseball pioneer. Chadwick used S for sacrifice and chose K for strikeout. He did so because K is the prominent letter of the word "strike," which was used more frequently than strikeout. Some scorers use a forward K for a swinging strikeout, a backward K for a batter caught looking.
A strikeout occurs when a pitcher throws any combination of three swinging or looking strikes to a hitter. However, even if the batter reaches first base safely, the pitcher and the batter are still credited with a strikeout in the scorebook. In the scorebook, a strikeout is denoted by the letter K.
Game 4 was the highest-scoring game in postseason history. Neither starting pitcher survived the third inning, after which the Jays led 7-6. The Phillies piled up the runs, though, and, after scoring another run in the seventh, they held a seemingly-commanding 14-9 lead.
A home run occurs when a batter hits a fair ball and scores on the play without being put out or without the benefit of an error. In that situation, the batter is awarded all four bases, and any runners on base score as well. The batter can circle the bases at his leisure, as there is no threat of him being thrown out.

Scouts have long graded position players on five tools that are central to success in the game: hitting, hitting for power, running, fielding and throwing. The so-called “five-tool player” is a special breed, as those who truly rate above average in each category are extremely rare.
Infield Fly RuleThe infield fly rule is quite possibly the most controversial rule in baseball. The infield fly rule is a rule that allows the on-field umpires to call a batter/runner out if they hit a fly ball in the infield with players on first and second or with the bases loaded.
In baseball, softball, and similar games, an inning is the basic unit of play, consisting of two halves or frames, the "top" (first half) and the "bottom" (second half). In each half, one team bats until three outs are made, with the other team playing defense.
The 5 tools of baseball are: speed, power, hitting for average, fielding and arm strength. If a player possesses all of these tools at the big league level then he is on his way to stardom.
Once a
pitcher throws 21 pitches (under 14) or 31 pitches (15–18) in a
game, the
pitcher must rest and not participate in
pitching. Furthermore,
pitchers may not be catchers if more than 40 pitches were
thrown by the player.

For more than a century, baseball has been a sport for young and old to play, but it also is a form of exercise. The most important reason to play baseball is because you love the sport, but absent that reason, the sport offers other benefits that are reason enough to step between the baselines.
Despite the job title, there is, in one sense, nothing "official" about official scoring. There is no school to attend, no degree or certification that must be earned. All one needs to become an official scorer is a deep knowledge of baseball, a flexible summertime schedule, and, of course, connections.
The official scorer is the person appointed to observe from the press box and record the outcome of everything that happens during a game, and to make judgment calls that affect the official record of said game. The official scorer files a report after each game for documentation purposes.
As such the most important job of the scorer is making sure they have the score correct. Team score is kept at the top of the page by putting slashes through the appropriate number as the team scores. Individual scores are kept by quarter next to the player's name.
