Some boilers won't ignite if the gas or water pressure is too low. Low gas pressure could be a problem with supply in the area and you may need to call out the supplier to check. Alternatively, it may be that the water pressure is too low in a sealed system boiler.
If you still can't light your boiler, there could be debris blocking the jet. Boiler pilot light jets are relatively cheap to replace but can also be removed, cleaned and re-installed. Your heating engineer will be able to advise you on the best course of action and replace the jet accordingly.
Boiler Thermostat TestingTo confirm that it is most likely a boiler thermostat problem, shut down the system, turn the temperature on your controller down to zero, and do the same with any in-room thermostats if you have them. Turn it on again, but keep your hot water off so you can check the central heating first.
Manual Boiler Pilot Light IgnitionThe gas control knob box will be gray and situated near the floor at the front of the boiler. The knob will be situated on top. If you smell any gas, allow the smell to dissipate for 15 minutes. Open windows to facilitate venting.
The green light on a Worcester Bosch boiler typically indicates that the burner is operating properly, which is a good sign. However, sometimes the green light can go off, with the boiler still working fine.
If you find that you keep having to reset your boiler, it's likely that there could be a fault with your heating system. This fault could eventually lead to a more serious issue such as a boiler breakdown, so it's best to seek out a solution as soon as possible.
I'm sorry to hear of the problems you are encountering with your Worcester Greenstar condensing boiler. We are a little confused with your comments though as the Greenstar doesn't have a pilot light, the boiler has a fully automatic ignition system.
The pilot light must always stay on or gas will easily escape. If the pilot light keeps turning off, then your boiler is not working. Older combi boilers may sometimes have pilot lights that flicker off, but can be restarted easily.
Can a Pilot Light Outage Be Dangerous? The worry here is that when a pilot goes out, the gas valve that supplies the fuel for the pilot flame could still be pumping gas. This can mean a buildup of gas, and when the pilot is relit or relights itself it could result in a very serious explosion.
The boiler is programmed to increase its flow temperature by a certain number of degrees per minute. If it exceeds that rate, then this symbol will appear, the burner will stop for two minutes, and will restart afterwards. The display will flash between this symbol and the flow temperature.
Due to the nature of the lock out, the safest option would be to call a Gas Safe engineer to come and fix the problem. Once they've determined the fault and fixed it, they will reset the boiler to clear the EA 227 fault code.
If your Worcester Bosch boiler is leaking, it will usually lockout out and display the error code EA338 or sometimes A281. A leaking boiler can be caused by a few different things. The most common cause of leaking is superficial holes within the pipework, as well as broken seals, or valves.
The appliance can be reset by pressing the overheat cut-off button. Fig. 2. 24i/28i Controls.
