Christening is not its own ceremony or sacrament but rather a reference to the part of the Baptism where the priest asks, “What name have you given your child?” In some denominations (oftentimes Catholic), Christening has been accepted as another name for Baptism.

When someone is baptized, they promise to keep God's commandments and love other people. Baptism is a big responsibility, but God is happy when we follow the example of His Son, so we should have faith and follow Him. Help your child understand that by being baptized a person is completely cleansed of sin.
Christian parents who dedicate a child are making a promise to the Lord before the church congregation to do everything within their power to raise the child in a godly way — prayerfully — until he or she can make a decision on his or her own to follow God.
Ephesians 4:4-6 says, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
You can address your card to baby or the parents, and as long as it's heartfelt it can be secular or include the religious element. The parents will be delighted that you came either way, and what you put in a Christening card is simply the cherry on top.

Traditionally, Christian children have three godparents in total, though they can have as many as the parent wants. Girls usually have two godmothers and one godfather while boys have two godfathers and one godmother but there is no hard and fast rules nowadays.
SIblings can be godparents but they must be at least 16. And some dioceses make the age even older, 18. The good news: Being a sibling makes no difference. So if God sends you a baby in 7 years or so, and your diocese goes with canon law and nothing stronger, then you have a godmother in your daughter at that time!

"The only requirement for godparents is that they should have been baptised. A Muslim or a Hindu cannot strictly speaking be a godparent, nor can a secularist who has not been baptised." While the Church does insist on godparents being baptised, that may not be uniformly enforced across all parishes.
In some churches, it is traditional for the baby's godmother to buy the baby's baptism clothes. However, some parents may wish to use baptism gowns that have been passed through their families as heirlooms, so it is important to check with the baby's family before you buy anything for the baby to wear at the baptism.
When to hold a christeningAs to the age of your baby – that really depends on the parents and, to some extent, the requirements of your church. Fifty years ago it was very common to hold a christening just a couple of weeks after a baby was born.
