In general, the maximum legal load width is 8.5 feet (102 inches), and the maximum height limit is also 102 inches. Legal length is typically 48 to 53 feet, and the maximum weight is about 46,000 pounds. Some trucks may be able to scale heavier, but 46,000 pounds is usually the standard.
Federal law states that any two or more consecutive axles may flOt exceed tt1e weight computed by the Bridge Formula even though single axles, tandem axles, and gross weight are within legal limits.
A load must not project more than 150 mm beyond either side of a vehicle or trailer. When measuring how far a load projects from the side of a vehicle or trailer, measure from the edge of the vehicle or trailer body – not from rear vision mirrors, lights or reflectors.

A standard motor vehicle may transport more than one overdimension load, if the loads: aren't wider than 2.55 metres if they're loaded side by side. aren't higher than 4.3 metres if they're loaded one above the other.A truck company can be fined $65 per pound for overweight loads up to 10,000 pounds. After 10,000 pounds overloaded, the fine increases to $125/pound. State laws vary throughout the country. Many states only charge a few pennies per pound when the load is overweight.
Regulations can vary from state to state. As a general rule any truck-trailer-load combination exceeding 80,000 lbs.gross weight is considered overweight. Divisible loads are loads that can be reduced in weight within an eight (8) hour period without damaging the load.
For overweight loads there is a weight fee of $5.00 for every 8,000 pounds (or portion thereof) for weight over the legal weight limit of the vehicle. Additionally, if the move uses one or more of the three toll roads there will be a $11.00 flat fee for each toll.
In general, oversize load costs per mile start around $2.30. Costs can quickly go up though as the size of your load increases. Larger loads can cost well over $10 per mile. Make sure to get rates from multiple oversize cargo transportation companies to ensure you get the best rate.
