Go to Settings/Apps/Default Apps and scroll to 'set defaults by app'. This should bring up a list of apps - select on the OneNote 2016 app that is the 'online' icon (not the 'desktop' icon).
OneNote is a built in app, with Windows 10. You would be able to use the OneNote app without purchasing office 365 subscription. You are prompted to enter the subscription/license for OneNote is because, you might be clicking on OneNote desktop icon, which is a part of Office suite.
Next to the item labeled ONENOTE - URL:OneNote protocol, click + Choose a default, and then select your preferred version of OneNote from the popup menu. For example, choose OneNote if you want to always open your notebooks in the OneNote desktop app.
Besides, since the Send to OneNote button is a kind of add-in, please go to File > Options > Add-ins and check whether the OneNote add-in is listed under the Disabled Application Add-ins tab. If so, please click Go… button at the bottom of the dialog and check the box.
Share a page or notebookImportant: Work or school accounts can only share notebooks. If you want to share a page using a work or school account, select Send a copy to email a copy of the page. Enter the email address for who you want to share with. In the second drop-down, choose if recipients Can edit or Can view.

Add students to a Class Notebook in OneNote
- Sign in to Office.com with the log-in provided by your school.
- Select Class Notebook, then Add or remove students in the Class Notebook Wizard.
- Select the notebook you're adding students to.
- Type in a student name, email address, or group name to add student(s) from your school.
Export a OneNote notebook
- In any modern Web browser, go to OneNote for the web.
- Enter your credentials for the Microsoft account containing the notebook you want to download.
- Under My Notebooks, right-click (PC) or Control-click (Mac) the name of the notebook that you want to export, and then click Export notebook.
Click File > Share > Invite People. Under Shared with, right-click the person's name you want to change permissions for, and choose an option. Choose Can Edit if you'd like them to be able to make changes to the notebook or Can View if you want them to only be able to open it.
Just use a file synchronization software, like Dropbox, Google Drive, Bittorrent Sync, etc., and create the Notebook in a directory shared by both of you. Of course, if you are going to share a sensitive data you can always use another layer of security on top of the file sync software, like CryptSync.
Export to PDF using a web browser on Windows
- From your web browser, go to the OneNote for the web page you want to export as a PDF.
- Click or tap File > Print, and then click or tap Print again.
- To export to PDF, in the Printer list, select Microsoft Print to PDF.
- OneNote will save the PDF to your Documents folder.
Start OneNote on your PC, click File > Option> OneNote Options > Save & Backup in order. Navigate to drive.google.com from your browser and log in to your account, then click My Drive > Upload files or Upload folder to upload the OneNote files to your Google Drive from the location where they are saved.
