Answer: A: finder>preferences>sidebar tab> uncheck everything under shared.
An apparent bug in Mac OS X's file sharing sometimes causes odd PC names to show under the "Shared" section of the Finder's sidebar. The first is that the user has a PC on the network with file sharing enabled, and the user has Windows sharing enabled on their computer.
'Shared' are simply other devices that are announcing the services that they are running on the local network. Apple use the Bluescreen PC icon but it may not be an actual PC. To truly stop them appearing you need to disable the services on the other machine which is on the same network.

If your computer is being remotely accessed, it will show a little viewer icon in the menu bar. (Note, I've been using screen sharing since OS X Leopard, and I've never seen the icon noted by de_an777 in his answer. Go into System Preferences > Shared.
Choose Apple Menu (?) > System Preferences, then click iCloud. Deselect the Find My Mac checkbox. Sign out of iCloud. When you sign out of iCloud, you're asked whether you want to remove iCloud data from your Mac.
hold Command-Option-Esc down and Force Quit Finder. Then try to shut down. If that doesn't work, you may have to force power off, but that can corrupt the OS.
