You can schedule Time Machine II to record or switch to a program at a certain time. You cannot schedule a recording time within two minutes of the current time. If you do not have access to an electronic program guide (EPG), you cannot use the Select schedule by program function.Burn-in is permanent damage to a screen caused by showing the same image for a long period of time. Burn-in is most prominent in CRT and plasma screens, which use phosphors to create the image on your TV or monitor. However, it's also possible to cause image persistence on an LCD-based screen, though it's rarer.
Leaving the DVR in pause shouldn't be a problem. But as noted, it may turn off in power saver mode and thus lose where it was paused. However, turning the DVR on and then selecting play for the recording will pick it up where you left off. If you have a TV that may suffer from burn in, just turn the TV off.
Pausing Live TV
When you hit the pause button on a DVR remote, it freeze-frames the current image, giving the appearance of a paused videotape. When you hit play (un-pause), the recorded program begins playing. The pause feature is incredibly handy. It seems to have a mind of it's own. Sometimes it pauses for 2 mins and un-pauses, another time it will happily paue for half an hour or more. It's so damn annoying and was never, ever an issue on the old Sky+.
Although much less susceptible than Plasma TVs, LED TVs are still subject to screen burn in (image retention). In general, you should avoid keeping a static picture (that is, a picture that contains no or few moving elements) or a picture with static elements (black bars, black borders, logos, etc.)
Since there is no physical contact between the DVD and the pickup (everything is done with light), the DVD can't be worn or hurt by being on pause. You can play a DVD 1000 times, and it'll play just like new every time as long as you handle the disc properly.
Now, we're adding the flexibility to be able to set that pause quickly and easily for a certain amount of time – 30 minutes, one hour, or two hours.
Plus, your DVR allows you to record up to 500 HD hours of your favorite programs and watch them from any room in the house. Press PAUSE on your remote to momentarily suspend Live TV, then press PLAY to resume. If you missed something and want to see it again, press SKIP BACK to go backward 10 seconds at a time.
The good news is that on an LCD it can usually be reversed but on a CRT it is usually permanent. To start, power-down your display for at least 48 hours. If the image is still persistent, try this tip from Lifehacker, which involves using an all-white screen to overwrite the first burn.
