While Prague is more expensive than other Czech cities at an average cost of €50 to €80 per person per day, it is certainly more affordable than other Western European cities if you're travelling on a mid-range budget.
We recommend that you spend at least a minimum of 2 days in Krakow, but ideally 3 days if you can spare the extra time. 2 days will give you just enough time to see most of the attractions in Krakow, and give you time for a full day trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial.
If you are short on time, Prague will be the better choice seeing as it's a smaller, walkable city with better day trip options. If you have a little more time and happen to love food, Budapest will give you a few more options to fill your days, plus, the thermal spas are world-class.

Do people speak English in Krakow? Krakow is a city whose student population is considerable and many young people of it speak really good English. At the same time, the older generation of Polish people (there are some exceptions, though) would not be taught English at schools at all.
Kraków is generally a safe city for travellers, although as a major tourist spot it has its fair share of pickpockets; be vigilant in crowded public areas. If you're staying in the centre of the Old Town expect late-night noise from bars and clubs; ask for a room at the back.

Flixbus in PolandFlixbus is the major bus line in Poland after their acquisition of Polskibus in 2018. I have traveled on several different bus lines like RegioJet (CZ) and Ecolines (Latvia) when they provided more convenient point-to-point travel than trains in Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
