If gently cleaning the printhead nozzles hasn't been successful, you can soak the printhead to loosen any dried ink. Fill a bowl with warm water (or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the printhead) and place the printhead directly in it. Let it sit for five minutes or so.Oct 1, 2020
Put the cartridge printhead side down in a bowl of warm. Wait a few minutes and check to see if any ink has flowed into the water. If it hasn't, you can take a cotton bud soaked in warm water and rub it gently along the printhead to help unclog the nozzles.Apr 28, 2020

Check if the vents of the cartridges are clogged. Try using a different ink cartridge to determine if your printer is able to recognize cartridges. Streaking is usually caused by a worn out drum unit or spent toner cartridge. Remove the cartridge and rock it back and forth a few times over a trashcan to evenly redistribute the toner powder. Horizontal smears indicate a buildup of fibers beneath the ink cartridges. If you suspect this, remove the cartridges and clean them. This process differs depending on your printer's model. Refer to the printer's user guide for instructions on removing the cartridges.
Dampen the cotton swab with the water or alcohol (should be damp only – squeeze or blot out any excess). Gently clean the surface of the print head, removing any dried ink, dirt or fibers. You can normally fix that by doing the following:
- Check the drum, print head, ink cartridge or toner cartridge for seals that should have been removed when it was installed or even sticky blobs left behind.
- Run a printer clean.
- Replace the drum or toner cartridge.

The most common fix to remove lines and shading on your print jobs
- Pull the print cartridge out.
- Look to see if there is a line on the imaging drum of the print cartridge.
- Replace the defective print cartridge with a new one.
- Place the print cartridge back in the machine.
If you are experiencing an issue with ink smearing when using a highlighter, confirm the following: - Only plain paper is being used. If photo or glossy paper is used, ink will smear if using a highlighter. Reduce the density of the black ink which will minimize smearing.
The 2130 is still the simplest and most dependable printer I've had in a long time, and I love it for that, but the ink issue is a drawback. IMO it doesn't outweigh the good, but just be aware. Original review: I love this simple, economical, dependable little printer.

Press the "On" button on your printer to turn it on, wait 20 seconds, then turn it off. Allow the printer to completely turn off. Repeat this step five times so that the HP cartridge identification information will be erased from the printer's memory.
The HP Deskjet 2130 uses HP 63XL color and black ink cartridges.
Click the "Printer Services" tab and then click "Clean the Print Cartridges." Click "Clean" to clean the printer and print a test sheet.
If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge, you cannot re-install and use the cartridge. Caution: If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the printer.
Method 1: Remove both the black and the color ink HP cartridges from your printer.
Method 2: A full reset of the printer should also do:
- Remove the cartridges and unplug the printer.
