Many teachers discover the apps they've been using for years don't work on Chromebooks. This means you can't use things like GarageBand, Mixcraft, Sibelius, Finale, Audacity and the other “download and install” software programs you've used in the past.
Sadly, Chrome OS doesn't allow users to install any third-party software. This means you can't install software like FL Studio, Mixcraft, Pro Tools, or Audacity directly onto your Chromebook.
You cannot run Audacity on a Chromebook because Audacity does not support Chrome OS. At time of writing, Linux support in Chrome OS is experimental - refer to Google support for information about running Linux applications on Chrome OS.
Chromebooks don't officially support Windows. You normally can't even install Windows—Chromebooks ship with a special type of BIOS designed for Chrome OS. But there are ways to install Windows on many Chromebook models, if you're willing to get your hands dirty.
You have to have enabled the linux VM (beta) in chromebook settings. Point a chrome browser to and download the latest . deb package. Open your chromebook file browser, select the deb package in the downloads folder, right click and install with linux (beta).
At the top left of the manager (under the File menu), you should see what looks like a display with a play button on it. Click that button and you will be prompted to create a new virtual machine. Since we're using an image we downloaded, select the option that says “Local install media” and click forward.

- Not Recommended for Gaming. Chromebooks might not be the best option for you if you are looking for a computer that you can play games on.

Of course, running Chrome OS doesn't require much processing power in the first place, so it might not feel as slow as you'd expect.
