The Wraith Max is compatible with AM4, AM3, and FM2 motherboards and requires a USB header in addition to an RGB LED header for use.The stock thermal paste won't be an issue. The stock cooler is good enough even for slight overclock, and it's very silent. Definitely not worth getting another paste or an aftermarket cooler if you're not planning to push it to the maximum possible overclock (which is not that much, either).
No thermal paste does not come on the cpu, but most come with thermal paste on the stock cooler. If you are planning on using the stock cooler that comes with the cpu, you will need to buy some. If you're using the stock cooler, the thermal paste will be pre-applied on that, but always check to make sure.

Even though the stock cooler that comes with the Ryzen 7 2700X, the 'Wraith Prism' cooler, is actually a decent stock cooler. For example it won't be able to keep the CPU at a comfortable temperature if you really want to push the overclock on the 2700X.
Built a few machines using the stock cooler though and they're way better than anything Intel provides, to the point where if you were planning just to run at stock they're a solid and completely viable choice. It is more than ok for stock operations. It's an amazing stock cooler.

Ryzen 7 2700X can be manually overclocked to 4.3 GHz. If you spend some money on good cooling, there's no reason to manually overclock Ryzen 7 2700X. Thanks to XFR2, AMD's flagship should remain stable above 4 GHz, even under full load.

Yes, the stock cooler is fine (for anything) as long as you're not overclocking. The temperatures will be higher, but safe and it might be a bit loud.
Under typical gaming load it gets no where near that. Stock cooler is more than adequate and at 70-80% PWM isn't too intrusive. Ryzen stock cooler is great for stock speeds. For overclocking you need something better.
