Getting a refund for a cancelled or delayed train. You can get a full refund if your train journey is cancelled. If you're delayed and arrive at your destination more than half an hour late, you'll usually be able to get some money back. You should try to claim within 28 days, but some train companies allow longer.
If the train is running late by more than three hours of scheduled departure, no cancellation charge will be levied. Full money will be refunded to passengers holding confirmed, RAC, and wait-listed tickets in such case (subject to the condition that the ticket is surrendered prior to actual departure of train).
Performance. Around 60 per cent of passenger delays are attributed to us. As well as infrastructure faults, this includes delays caused by vandalism, cable theft, weather and trespass, which account for around 20 per cent of the total.

If the train is cancelled, there is no requirement for filing TDR. IRCTC processes the refund automatically. If the train is running late by more than 3 hours and the passenger has not travelled, a TDR has to be filed before the actual departure of the train for availing full refund.
If you miss your connecting train
This means you'll usually be permitted to travel on the next available train free of charge if your first train is delayed. They do not entitle you to a full refund of your order. You may need to show your tickets on later services as evidence of the delay.Train Late More Than 3 hours and Passenger Not Travelled. Most Train Companies now offer 'Delay Repay' where daily ticket holders as well as weekly, monthly and longer Season Tickets can claim for delayed journeys as and when they occur. Please retain your train ticket and make a note of your journey as both will be required to support any claim for compensation.

How to request a Refund in My Account
- Sign into My Account and select your order to view your tickets.
- Click the "Refund" button.
- Select the tickets you'd like to submit a refund for.
- Review the details and submit.
- Refunds should be received within 7-10 business days.
If you don't see the change button, your reservation may not be changed through the app. Amtrak doesn't charge a ticket change fee, but other fees may apply.
Some train tickets are sold as part of a special offer and may not be transferable or refundable at all. If this is the case, the restrictions should be made clear to you up front before you buy.
If you bought a Flexible fare you can refund or exchange your ticket for free. You need to make the exchange or refund request before the travel date of your original ticket. With all other fare types, your ticket is non-refundable but you can still change it for a $20 fee prior to your scheduled departure date.
It's possible, if just a few minutes are involved, Amtrak might hold the connecting train for you. But if you've definitely missed your connection with another long-distance train—and this is important—once you pull into the station, go immediately to Amtrak's Passenger Service Desk in the station.
To change tickets for a different route cancel these tickets online, then buy new ones. You can travel on any train on the date shown on the ticket. If you want to change your travel date, you can cancel your tickets online and buy new ones. Please note there is a £10 charge for cancelling a booking.
If you made your reservation while logged into your Amtrak.com account, simply log into your account and click the 'My Account' link at the top of any page. The 'View/Edit' button will take you to your reservations where you can click the 'Cancel Trip' button and follow the steps for cancellation.
Claim compensation. You're legally entitled to get compensation if the delay is the airline's responsibility and either: the replacement flight delays your arrival by 2 or more hours. your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure.
