Passion fruit, or Chinola as it is called in Dominican Republic, is a popular native fruit that is delicious and healthy. It is loaded with vitamin A and C, antioxidants, potassium and fiber.

The country has lost practically all its citrus since the so-called Yellow Dragon disease began to affect sweet and sour orange crops, as well as grapefruit, and creole lemon crops in 2008.
Paleta is the Spanish word for an ice pop, or a popsicle. And here, just like anywhere, paletas are one of children's favorite treats. Perhaps more so here because it's a great way to cool down during our very warm summers.

Mora is a deep, rich, red Andean blackberry ~ and tastes rather like loganberry. Mora's deep red colour and intense taste make a great sorbet, lolly or ice cream all year round.
Speaking of typical fruit in the Dominican Republic, this tropical country boasts a wonderful collection of flavors. Bananas are perhaps the most famous, but there is also papaya, passion fruit (chinola), mango, sapote, soursop, tamarind, coconut, pineapple, guava, star fruit and many more.
Spanish Lime or LimoncilloThis exotic fruit goes by many names throughout Latin America, but in the Dominican Republic it is called Limoncillo. Limoncillos look like small limes on the outside, hence the English name of Spanish Lime.
In the South pitahayas are produced in Barahona, Pedernales, Bahoruco and Independencia.

Capital Santo Domingo and second city Santiago de los Caballeros might be a bit rougher around the edges, but small Punta Cana is quite safe. Cattle-raising was still the primary livestock activity in the late 1980s, and the Dominican stock exceeded 2 million head, the great majority of which were beef cattle, raised mostly on medium-to-large ranches in the east.

When the Arawak migrated to the Caribbean from South America in the 17th century, they brought with them what would become the official fruit of Antigua, the Black Pineapple. Said to be 'the world's sweetest,' the fruit belongs to the “Queen†group of pineapple, growing primarily on the southwest coast near Cades Bay.
