How to Cook Frozen Mushrooms
- Place a skillet over medium heat.
- Place your butter in the skillet and swirl the skillet to spread the butter over the bottom as it melts.
- Add your mushrooms to the melted butter.
- Cook the mushrooms, stirring frequently, until most of the liquid has evaporated, then add the shallots and cook for a few minutes more.

- Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF. Coat the frozen tots with a little cooking spray, like avocado oil.
- Cook for 15 minutes on 400ºF – flip them in the basket every 5 minutes or so until crisp and golden and medium brown in a few spots. Add extra time if you want them crispier.

While some mushrooms are better cooked before they are frozen, others are fine to freeze raw. Grocery store button mushrooms, creminis, and portobellos (which are mature creminis) are cultivated mushrooms that can be frozen raw or cooked. Hen of the woods mushrooms and maitake mushrooms freeze well raw.
If you are going to freeze them, then place the entire sheet in the freezer until semi-frozen, then toss in a freezer bag. If you put them in before they have a chance to freeze individually, you will end up with one big ol' breaded mushroom, because odds are–they will all stick together.
Freezing Mushrooms RawThe simplest way to freeze your mushrooms is just to freeze them raw without any additional preparation. You can either chop them into slices or freeze them whole. Then you can take the frozen mushrooms out and put them in freezer bags. Try to remove as much excess air from the bags as possible.
The secret to mushroom storage is that they stay fresh longer if you take them out of their container. Wrap them in paper towels placed in open plastic bags (paper bags are even better) and keep them in the fridge.

To make the pan-fried mushrooms, heat the butter in a frying pan over a medium heat. When the butter starts to bubble, add the mushrooms and cook for 4–5 minutes, until the mushrooms are dark golden brown around the edges.
