A stroke of luck saw Demelza unexpectedly turning up and managing to stop the general from killing Ross outright. The two men agreed to a sword fight to the death instead.

In the final episode of Poldark season four, Elizabeth Warleggan died of gangrene as the result of taking a potion meant to bring on childbirth early. Though Elizabeth married George following the death of her first husband Francis (Kyle Soller), her second child Valentine is not his.

George argues that Demelza is an honorable woman. And Adderley uses this to his advantage. Even though Demelza has no intention of sleeping with him, he lies his way into the Poldarks' London flat while Ross is stuck in Parliament.
Demelza was sorry and begged him to forgive her, saying she only had Verity's best interests at heart, and Ross said he will try to forgive her. She said she won't be happy until Ross forgives her, but Ross said it would take some time.
