Vizrt has acquired NewTek, joining the two leaders in the IP video revolution. A terrific analysis has come from the folks at RedShark News: This was an almost complete surprise.
Network Device Interface (NDI) is a royalty-free software standard developed by NewTek to enable video-compatible products to communicate, deliver, and receive high-definition video over a computer network in a high-quality, low-latency manner that is frame accurate and suitable for switching in a live production
With iVGA™, your Mac® Desktop is a live video source for a networked TriCaster™ production switcher. This tiny iVGA client application runs quietly in the background on your Mac®, and lets the TriCaster operator switch your screen (static or in motion) as part of the program, just like any other live video input.

The NewTek TriCaster Mini Advanced HD-4 is a compact, all-in-one multimedia solution that allows you to simultaneously broadcast, stream, and record live productions from virtually anywhere. The TriCaster Mini Advanced HD-4 features 750GB of internal storage and also supports recording to external storage via USB 3.0.
NDI enables you to send one or more video streams over a network and it does so with low-latency. While NDI is a low-latency way to send video throughout the network, and send multiple streams at the same time, that's also its limitation. For example, PTZOptics sells PTZ cameras that can send video via NDI.
NDI allows multiple video systems to identify and communicate with one another over IP, and to encode, transmit and receive many streams of high quality, low latency, frame-accurate video and audio in realtime.
NDI® Tools is a free suite of applications designed to introduce you to the world of IP. NDI makes it possible to connect to any device, in any location, anywhere in the world – and transmit live video to wherever you are.
NDI operates most efficiently in a dedicated network with high bandwidth and high availability. While a single stream of HD video can easily be delivered on a Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) network, Gigabit (1000 Mbps) networks are essential in production workflows.
NDI® (Network Device Interface) technology allows you to broadcast the audio and video streams from a Teams meeting to your local network. When using NewTek NDI® technology in a Teams meeting, you will have unique video steams on the network that can be used in your own production.
Generally a channel of 1080p60 NDI stream occupies about 100Mbps of bandwidth, a channel of 4Kp60 video stream requires about 200Mbps.
New NDI tools are dedicated to simplifying the transition from baseband video to IP workflows. It enables NDI delivery over the public internet securely with AES 128/256 Encryption. BirdDog Cloud also uses SRT protocol to ensure high quality delivery even over lossy network connections and with extremely low latency.
